The read

Miami walks into Chase Center one night after an overtime win over the Clippers in Los Angeles, with a rested Golden State team on a five-game win streak waiting. Thompson and Wiggins get their return to this building as Heat players, but the schedule is the story.

Fatigue is the first reason I'm laying the points. Last night's game ran about 110 possessions, with Mitchell logging 43 minutes, Antetokounmpo and Adebayo 41 each, and Thompson 35, up from 27 in the previous game. Golden State has had two days off. Miami's only other back-to-back this season ended in a 115-110 loss at Charlotte after trailing 96-75 through three.

The matchup makes those tired legs more costly. Opponents are shooting 40.5% from three against Miami, and the Warriors attempt 41.5 threes a game. They've made 22 threes in three of their last five games, winning those by 12, 17 and 20. They won the other two as well, shooting 37 free throws in each. After the Lakers scored 138 on Monday, Adebayo linked Miami's communication breakdowns to fatigue. That's a real problem against Curry, who has scored 34, 31, 44 and 24 in their last four games.

Form points the same way. Golden State is +2.9 points per game this season and Miami is -4.9, before accounting for home court or rest. The Warriors are +57 during the streak, while the Heat are +12 over their last four. Miami's latest win was also thin. Thompson went 8-of-17 from three while the rest of the team went 2-of-23, and Antetokounmpo shot 8-of-20 and had the right wrist heavily taped afterward. Miami needed overtime to win by one against a Clippers team Golden State beat by 12 at home without Curry or Green. Horford and Williams are also back, giving Golden State more depth against a tired opponent.

There's real risk here. Miami averages just over 52 points in the paint, Green is projected at center, and Golden State allowed 60 and 66 in the paint in two of its three losses. The Warriors also average 16.5 turnovers and have trailed after the first quarter in four of their last five games. Monday's 3-point win over Phoenix wouldn't have covered this number. Starting lineups weren't confirmed at last check, and this read assumes Curry and Green both play.

I'll still lay the 3.5 with the rested team at home.

The research

The dated measurements the app shows under this card — observations with their sample and source, not predictions.

HEAD-TO-HEAD

  • MIA and GSW split last season 1-1

    1-1

Miami and Golden State split two games last season, and tonight is their first meeting this season. Two games and a 1-1 record give you no real edge either way, so current rosters and tonight's spot should carry far more weight in how you view this game.

REPLACEMENT

  • Kristaps Porzingis is OUT for GSW

    OUT

Porzingis is listed as not with the team, and reporting on Nov 4 says the Warriors have stopped paying his salary. That points to an off-court situation with no injury timeline to follow, so don't expect a routine return date. For tonight, look at Golden State's frontcourt minutes and at props for whoever takes on his role.

  • Jimmy Butler is OUT for GSW

    OUT

Butler is out as he works back from surgery to repair his right ACL, and reporting on Oct 16 discussed a possible return at some point. A long-term absence like this should already be built into the Warriors' prices, so his name alone gives you little new tonight. Watch for return news, because that is when the number is more likely to move.

  • Moses Moody is OUT for GSW

    OUT

Moody remains out after surgery on his left patellar tendon, and reporting on Oct 16 said he was progressing. This is a long recovery, so the market should already account for it tonight. The update to watch is a return date, because his comeback would change the Warriors' rotation and the minutes behind their current props.

  • Gui Santos is OUT for GSW

    OUT

Santos was ruled out for Thursday's game with left knee tendinitis, and this report is fresh, so it is the newest item on the Warriors' injury list. Tendinitis can come and go, so tonight's absence says little about how long this lasts. If you're looking at rotation props, check whether they were posted before or after the news.

SITUATIONAL

  • MIA on a back-to-back, GSW rested

    B2B vs 3d

Miami played last night while Golden State sat, which gives the Warriors a 3-day edge in rest at home. This applies to tonight only and carries no further than this game. The Heat's legs matter most late, so the second half and player minutes are good places to look for the effect. The market usually knows about a gap this plain, so compare the number with what you'd expect before adding rest on top.

STREAK

  • GSW has won 5 straight

    W5

Golden State has won five in a row, and by 11.4 a game, so these have been comfortable wins. The 5-3 mark over the last 8 means the three losses came right before this run, so the team is less dominant than the streak alone suggests. Five games is a short sample and that margin is more likely to come down than hold. When you look at a spread tonight, weigh the full 8-game stretch alongside the hot run.

    Golden State Warriors

Miami has been giving away the three-point line all season. Minnesota hit 21 against them, the Lakers hit 19 on Monday, and the Clippers took 43 last night and made 16. Now the Heat get Curry on the second night of a back-to-back, after an overtime game that had Davion Mitchell out there for 43 minutes and Bam Adebayo and Giannis Antetokounmpo for 41 each. Adebayo said after the Lakers game that the communication on defense falls apart when this group gets tired, and tired is exactly how they walk into Chase Center.

Curry comes in with two days off and has been firing: 16 attempts in Minnesota, 14 against the Lakers, 13 against Phoenix, with six, eight and five makes. That volume is what I'm buying. He gets to five without a heater, and the plus price pays me for the one real risk, which is a Warriors blowout that shortens his night like the 27 minutes in Denver. Miami just won in Los Angeles and has been in plenty of games, so I expect him to play his full run. Give me the over at plus money.

    Bam Adebayo
    Rebounds under 9.5

    -125 · LOST · ACTUAL 10

    Miami Heat

This number looks inflated by last night. Adebayo needed 41 minutes and an overtime period in a game of about 110 possessions to reach 10 boards. Before that he had nine, nine, nine, eight, eight, six and seven. So the book is asking for a number he has only reached with a whole extra period, on the second night of a back-to-back and on tired legs.

The matchup pushes the same way. Golden State plays Draymond Green at center, gets Al Horford back, and spreads the floor with Yaxel Lendeborg and Georges Niang, so Adebayo will spend a lot of the night chasing bigs out to the arc instead of sitting under the rim. All those Warriors threes come off long, and those misses go to the wings. He also shares the glass with Giannis Antetokounmpo, who took 14 last night, and Bobby Portis, who grabbed 10 in only 18 minutes. Warriors games have run slower lately too, with Phoenix, the Clippers and the Lakers all sitting under 100 possessions. I'll lay the small price and take nine or fewer.
