The read
Two teams with a combined three wins meet in Phoenix tonight, and only one of them is fresh. Orlando opens a four-game Western trip after two days off, while the Suns are back on the floor one night after Portland beat them 132-119.
That's why I'm taking Magic +1.5. These teams are close in quality, so the rest edge and the matchup decide it for me, and Orlando can even lose by 1 and still cover.
This is Phoenix's first back-to-back of the season and its third game in four nights. Goodwin is out too, and Gillespie is 2-of-13 over the last two games at a spot where Chris Haynes has already reported locker-room frustration over the lack of a point guard. Orlando, meanwhile, gets Black back. Don't read too much into the Magic's 94-point loss Monday: it came on the second night of their own back-to-back, without Black, and included a 9-point third quarter.
The matchup to watch is Orlando's shooting against Phoenix's three-point defense. The Suns have allowed at least 116 points in all six games, about 125-126 per 100 possessions with or without that 41-point opening loss in Portland. Opponents are shooting 40.3% from deep against them. Orlando's only two wins both came with 18 made threes, and the Magic made 8 to 14 in the five losses. Bane is 15-of-31 from three over the last three games.
Fouls could tilt it further. Phoenix committed 29 in each of its last two games, sending opponents to the line 41 and 37 times. Booker fouled out of both, and Bridges, Green and Brooks each had 5 last night. Wagner went 8-of-9 at the line at Toronto and Black went 10-of-11 against Boston, so Orlando can make them pay.
The Suns have a real case. Since the opener they're scoring about 120 per 100 and losing by 5.0 a game against a tough schedule, while Orlando is losing by 6.8 a game since Banchero went out. Booker also dropped 43 on Golden State. Orlando's offense is the bigger worry, at about 109 per 100 without Banchero, with 17.3 turnovers a game and 18 in each of the last two. Wagner and Bane have been carrying 36 to 40 minutes a night. If the Magic turn it over like that or go cold from three, Phoenix probably covers.
At -118 this is a modest play, not a big one. I'd pass if Black is a late scratch.

HEAD-TO-HEAD
ORL and PHX split last season 1-1
1-1Orlando and Phoenix split two games last season, and tonight is their first meeting this season. A 1-1 split over two games tells you almost nothing about tonight, so give more weight to current form, health and rest than to the series history.
REPLACEMENT
Izaiyah Nelson is OUT for ORL
OUTNelson is out while recovering from a left ankle injury, and team president Jeff Weltman addressed his status back on Sep 28. It has been a long absence, so this is unlikely to be fresh news for tonight's price. The next status change is the thing to look for.
Jonathan Isaac is OUT for ORL
OUTIsaac is out with left knee injury management, and Orlando recalled him on Nov 2. The word management suggests the knee is being handled carefully, so his availability may change from night to night. Check the status close to tip before assuming he'll be in or out of the Magic's frontcourt in future games.
Noah Penda is OUT for ORL
OUTPenda was diagnosed with a partially torn right hamstring on Oct 17, and he remains out tonight. A hamstring tear like that gives no reason to expect a quick return, and the absence is old enough that it should already be in Orlando's number. His status matters more for future rotation changes than for tonight's line.
Paolo Banchero is OUT for ORL
OUTBanchero is out with a right high ankle sprain, and reporting on Oct 24 already expected him to be sidelined for a stretch. The absence isn't new, so the market has had time to adjust the Magic's price. The useful question is who has absorbed his touches. Look at how his teammates' props are set, and pay attention when return news arrives, since that would shift those numbers quickly.
Jalen Suggs is OUT for ORL
OUTSuggs is out with a right knee contusion and bone bruise, diagnosed on Oct 26. That means Orlando is missing him again tonight, and the absence is old enough to be in the line. Look at who is handling his minutes in the backcourt and how their props are priced, and check for updates in later games because his return would change those roles.
Jordan Goodwin is OUT for PHX
OUTGoodwin hurt his calf in Monday's 116-113 loss to the Warriors and also missed Wednesday's game against Portland. That makes this a short-term injury with a recent track record of missed games, though no return timeline is given. Check how Phoenix covered his minutes on Wednesday, since that is the best guide to tonight's rotation.
Rasheer Fleming is OUT for PHX
OUTFleming was ruled out for Wednesday's game against the Trail Blazers with a sprained left ankle and stays out tonight. A sprain like this can clear up quickly or linger, and no timeline is given here. Wednesday's box score is the first place to look for who takes his minutes.
Mark Williams is OUT for PHX
OUTWilliams had surgery Thursday to repair a torn labrum in his left shoulder and will miss an extended period. This one lasts well beyond tonight, so Phoenix has to reset its big-man minutes for a long stretch. New roles can be slow to show up in prices, so look at who takes those minutes and how their rebounding and scoring props are set.
SITUATIONAL
PHX on a back-to-back, ORL rested
B2B vs 3dPhoenix played last night and Orlando has had 3 days off, so the Suns have the heavier legs on their home floor. This edge is about tonight's schedule and resets with the next game. Tired legs can show up late, so look at how the price treats the second half and the total as well as the full-game side. Check how much of the rest gap the line already includes before counting it as extra value.
STREAK
PHX has lost 4 straight
L4Phoenix has dropped four straight by an average of 8.5, so these haven't all been coin flips that slipped away. At 1-5 over the last 6, the slide runs longer than the streak itself. Six games is a small sample and the opponents aren't part of this picture, so the margin could move either way. Before leaning on the skid, check who Phoenix lost to and whether tonight's price already reflects it.

Props on this game
2- GARY'S PICKDESMOND BANE3-POINTERS OVER 3.5
This is a good volume shooter against a defense that is giving up a lot from deep and has no rest. Phoenix allowed 14 threes to Portland last night, 13 to Golden State and 20 to Denver. Now the Suns are on the second night of a back-to-back, their third game in four nights, while Orlando has been off since Monday. Tired legs mean late closeouts, and that suits Bane.
Bane has taken at least eight threes in every game this season, and the makes over the last five games read 4, 5, 6, 2, 4. With Banchero and Suggs out, Orlando needs that shooting, and Bane has played 36 to 40 minutes in each of the last three games. Black's return shouldn't cut into the looks either, since their last two games together produced six makes in Toronto and five against Boston. Dillon Brooks will make Bane work, but Brooks played 35 minutes last night and finished with five fouls. At +135, I'm getting plus money on a number Bane has been reaching regularly.
- GARY'S PICKWENDELL CARTER JR.POINTS UNDER 11.5
This line still looks shaped by the 22 and 20 Carter scored in the first two games, when Banchero was on the floor drawing attention. Since Banchero went down, Carter has scored 9, 3, 20, 7 and 6, and the shots have dried up: six attempts in New York, four and eleven in the Toronto games, six against Boston and just three against Washington. The offense now runs through Wagner's playmaking and Bane's jumper, and Carter has been the rebounder and screener in that setup.
Black's return adds another ball handler who attacks the paint, which leaves even fewer touches for Carter. Phoenix also has size at the rim with Maluach and Ighodaro, and the Suns blocked seven shots last night. The 20-point game in Toronto took 39 minutes and eight free throws, so Carter needs an unusual night to get past this number. The risk is a Suns team that has committed 29 fouls in each of its last two games and just gave up 24 to Clingan. Even so, I'd take plus money on a player who has gone under this number most nights since the lineup changed, especially with the over priced at -132.
