Sports picks for Saturday, April 25, 2026

It’s an early start at Camden Yards where the Red Sox are looking to find any kind of footing after getting dismantled in the series opener yesterday. While Baltimore is coming off a 20-hit explosion, I’m looking at the situational setup here and seeing a massive opportunity to buy low on a Boston team (9-17) that actually holds the late-inning edge today. The move starts with Garrett Crochet. His 7.88 ERA is the definition of a statistical outlier, largely driven by a single nightmare outing where he surrendered 10 earned runs. In his other starts, he’s been a strikeout machine, posting an elite 11.3 K/9. Today, he gets a huge assist from the conditions; with a 13 mph wind blowing straight in from right field, the home run ball that has plagued him is much less likely to leave the yard. On the other side, Trevor Rogers has been steady, but he’s given up four or more runs in consecutive starts and is facing a Boston lineup that has been kept quiet far too long. The real separator is the bullpen availability. Baltimore (13-13) enters this game dangerously thin, missing both closer Ryan Helsley and high-leverage setup man Keegan Akin. Conversely, Alex Cora managed yesterday’s blowout by using three position players to finish the game, meaning Aroldis Chapman and the rest of the Red Sox high-leverage staff are completely fresh. In a game that projects to be much tighter than yesterday’s 10-3 result, having a rested back end while the opponent is missing their two best relief weapons is a massive advantage. Combine that with the Orioles' peculiar 0-4 record this season in their City Connect uniforms against left-handed starters, and I like Boston to snap the streak.

The series shifts to central Florida with the top-seeded Pistons looking to reclaim the driver’s seat against an Orlando squad that has leaned heavily on the comforts of the Kia Center all season. While the Magic stole the opener and have been a formidable home team at 25-15, the statistical profile of this matchup suggests Detroit is operating at a level that Orlando simply hasn't matched. The Pistons finished the regular season with a 60-22 record and a +8.4 net rating, and they have actually ramped up that intensity in the postseason, posting a +12.9 net rating over their last five games. The most glaring discrepancy in this series is the individual play of the stars. Cade Cunningham has ascended into a different tier during this playoff run, averaging 33.0 points per game through the first two contests. He is currently the undisputed alpha on the floor, and Orlando’s perimeter defense has had no answer for his playmaking. Conversely, Orlando’s primary scoring duo of Desmond Bane and Franz Wagner has struggled to find any rhythm, combining to underperform their season scoring averages by double digits so far this series. While the "home cooking" narrative suggests their shooting percentages should rise in Orlando, they are facing a Detroit defense that just held them to 32.5% from the field and blocked 11 shots in Game 2. Furthermore, the battle in the trenches favors the Pistons significantly. Detroit’s league-leading 35.4% offensive rebound rate translated into a massive +15 rebounding margin in the last game, allowing them to overcome their own turnovers by simply creating more high-quality possessions. Orlando has struggled all year against the NBA's elite, posting a 5-14 record against top-tier competition, which contrasts sharply with Detroit’s 28-13 road record. When you have a 60-win team with the best player on the floor only laying a bucket and a half, you don't overthink the home-court atmosphere. Detroit’s physical interior presence and Cunningham’s efficiency should be enough to stifle Orlando's offense once again.

The sun is high over Busch Stadium for this cross-league clash, where the Mariners look to secure their first road series win of the season behind a dominant young arm. While the Cardinals have been a scrappy surprise in the NL Central with a 14-11 record, the statistical divide on the mound this afternoon is too wide to ignore, regardless of Seattle’s early-season 12-15 record and struggles away from home. Bryan Woo has evolved into a command specialist, entering this start with a sparkling 0.88 WHIP and a 2.46 xERA that proves his early success is no fluke. He has allowed zero home runs over his five starts this season, and today's weather—wind blowing six mph directly in from right field—only further insulates him against a Cardinals lineup that features left-handed bats like Nolan Gorman and Alec Burleson. Woo’s ability to limit traffic and maintain efficiency allows the Mariners to bridge directly to a high-leverage bullpen that holds a significant 3.37 ERA advantage over the St. Louis relief unit's 4.70 mark. On the other side, Matthew Liberatore is living on borrowed time. Despite a respectable 3.67 ERA, his peripherals are screaming for a correction; a 1.41 WHIP combined with a 5.04 xFIP suggests he is constantly escaping self-inflicted jams that a disciplined Mariners lineup will eventually exploit. Randy Arozarena has historically feasted on Liberatore, and with Josh Naylor coming off a tiebreaking home run on Friday, the middle of this Seattle order is finding its rhythm. The Cardinals' defense is elite, but range and glovework can only do so much when the pitcher is consistently putting runners on via the walk. Seattle snapped their road slide yesterday, and with their best starter on the bump against a regression-candidate southpaw, they are the clear play to clinch the series.

The roof is closed at Rogers Centre as the defending AL Champion Blue Jays look to staff ace Kevin Gausman to right the ship against a first-place Guardians squad that already stole the series opener. Toronto finds itself in a precarious 10-15 hole, but this afternoon presents the ultimate "stop the bleeding" opportunity with their most reliable arm on the mound in a venue where he has been virtually untouchable. Gausman has been a different animal at home in 2026, carrying a dominant 1.56 ERA and a 0.75 WHIP in his starts at Rogers Centre. He also holds a massive psychological edge over Cleveland's best hitter; Jose Ramirez is batting a meager .167 with seven strikeouts in 24 career at-bats against him. While Gausman cooled off slightly in his last two outings, his ability to generate 35 strikeouts over 28 innings this season suggests his stuff is still elite. He faces a Cleveland lineup that, despite winning yesterday, has seen its hard-hit rate crater to just 27.3% over the last three games. The Guardians’ offense relies on high contact and timely hits, but that’s a difficult recipe against Gausman’s high-velocity splitter in a controlled environment. The real edge tonight, however, is the matchup between Toronto’s right-handed power and Cleveland’s young southpaw Joey Cantillo. Cantillo has struggled with efficiency all year, posting a high 4.3 BB/9 rate and failing to reach the sixth inning in four of his five starts. He now walks into a buzzsaw, as the Blue Jays' lineup is specifically constructed to demolish left-handed pitching. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. is posting a staggering 1.457 OPS against lefties this season, and Eloy Jimenez is hitting .500 in the same split. Even with Nathan Lukes hitting the IL today, the depth of Toronto’s right-handed bats creates a nightmare for Cantillo. Cleveland used their top high-leverage arms like Cade Smith yesterday, meaning any early exit for Cantillo will leave a vulnerable middle relief core exposed to a desperate Toronto offense. Expect the veteran Gausman to outclass the youngster while the Jays' bats finally find their rhythm.

The Western Conference First Round shifts to the desert as the Phoenix Suns look to salvage their season against an Oklahoma City Thunder squad that has looked completely untouchable through two games. While a 2-0 series lead often leads to a "trap" line for the road favorite, the statistical gap between these two teams right now is too wide to ignore, even with the venue shift to Phoenix. The defining factor of this series has been ball security—or the complete lack of it from the Suns. Phoenix is averaging a catastrophic 20.0 turnovers per game through the first two meetings, a massive jump from their 14.5% season rate. Oklahoma City's second-ranked defense (106.5 DRtg) is feasting on these mistakes, translating them into a series net rating of +24.0. While Phoenix expects a boost from the return of Grayson Allen, relying on a player coming off a 15-day injury layoff to fix the chemistry of a turnover-prone offense against the league's most disciplined defense is a tall order. Devin Booker’s efficiency has cratered to 38.2% in this series under the pressure of Lu Dort, and there is little evidence that a change in zip code will suddenly solve that individual matchup. Even with Jalen Williams and Isaiah Joe listed as Out and Doubtful, Oklahoma City’s "Next Man Up" infrastructure is operating at a championship level. Rookie Ajay Mitchell has stepped in seamlessly, helping the Thunder bench maintain a +10.1 net rating over the last two games. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is simply playing a different game right now, averaging 32.5 points in the series and leading an OKC unit that ranks 2nd in clutch net rating (+23.8). Phoenix, meanwhile, has struggled in high-leverage spots all year, ranking 22nd in clutch efficiency. The Thunder were the NBA's best road team this season (30-10) and have won four of the last five meetings with Phoenix by double digits. Expect the top seed to stay aggressive and cover the number.

It is a crisp afternoon at Oracle Park as the Miami Marlins look to secure a series win against a San Francisco Giants squad searching for answers at the plate. After a lopsided 9-4 victory in the opener, Miami enters today with their offense firing on all cylinders while San Francisco leans on veteran Robbie Ray to stop the bleeding in front of a restless home crowd. The statistical profile for Robbie Ray is shouting for a regression game that might arrive this afternoon. While he carries a tidy 2.86 ERA, his 4.62 xERA reveals he has been living on the edge, and a 45% fly-ball rate is a dangerous gamble even in a pitcher-friendly environment like Oracle Park. The weather adds a significant layer of risk for Ray; with wind blowing 9 mph out to left field, the routine fly outs he typically relies on could easily carry for extra-base hits. Miami’s right-handed hitters like Xavier Edwards and Otto Lopez—who are both hitting north of .330—profile exceptionally well against Ray's tendencies, and they proved yesterday they can exploit this pitching staff for 16 hits. On the other side, the Giants' offense is struggling to find a heartbeat, averaging a league-worst 3.3 runs per game with a .644 OPS. The loss of Daniel Susac to an elbow injury earlier this week has left a massive hole in the middle of their order that Patrick Bailey, despite his elite defensive metrics, has been unable to fill with his current .148 batting average. Eury Pérez brings 98 mph heat that matches up well against the Giants' right-handed core, holding righties to a meager .209 batting average. While the Giants have a defensive edge behind the plate, the pure offensive disparity and the looming regression for Ray make the Marlins the more reliable side to keep their momentum rolling.

Shane McClanahan looks to push his limits under the dome at Tropicana Field as he continues his comeback journey, while the Twins aim to reverse a three-game slide in this Saturday afternoon clash. While the Rays are riding the momentum of yesterday's multi-homer performances from Junior Caminero and Jonathan Aranda, this matchup presents a distinct tactical edge for Minnesota that the current price seems to overlook. McClanahan's velocity is back to elite levels, touching 97 mph, but his 5.00 ERA and 5.5 BB/9 reveal a pitcher still fighting for consistency and command. He faces a Twins lineup that was built to dismantle lefties. Austin Martin is hitting .353 with a 1.021 OPS against southpaws, and catcher Ryan Jeffers has been a force with a .910 OPS in the same split. Furthermore, the return of Royce Lewis is a massive stabilizer; his home run in the ninth inning yesterday proved he is healthy and ready to punish mistakes in the middle of the order. The most glaring advantage for Minnesota lies in the running game. Rays catcher Nick Fortes is currently a liability behind the plate, having allowed 21 stolen bases on 23 attempts this season. With Byron Buxton and Austin Martin at the top of the order, the Twins can manufacture runs through sheer aggression on the paths. Additionally, McClanahan remains on a restricted workload, unlikely to exceed 90 pitches or five innings. This forces a transition to a Rays bullpen that is missing multiple arms like Edwin Uceta and Manuel Rodriguez. In contrast, the Twins' bullpen is completely rested after throwing just 1.2 innings yesterday. Bailey Ober has had his road struggles, but with a fresh stable of relievers behind him and a lineup optimized for this specific pitcher, the Twins are the high-value play to snap their streak.

State Farm Arena is buzzing as the Atlanta Hawks look to push the third-seeded Knicks to the brink of elimination in what has become the most physically demanding series in the East. Through three games, the Knicks actually maintain a +3.0 net rating for the series, but they find themselves trailing 2-1 because they have been out-executed in the final twelve minutes of back-to-back one-point losses. This isn't just a statistical fluke; it is a collision between a Knicks bench that evaporates when Karl-Anthony Towns rests—typified by a -23 net rating in Game 2 when he was off the floor—and a Hawks defense that has ranked #1 in the NBA since the January 9 trade of Trae Young. The betting market is still pricing the Knicks based on their 53-29 regular season pedigree and +6.4 season net rating, but the reality on the floor suggests Atlanta has the tactical edge in the current matchup. While New York is contemplating benching Mikal Bridges following a scoreless Game 3 performance, the Hawks are thriving on the back of CJ McCollum’s elite closer-play (27.0 PPG in the series) and Jonathan Kuminga’s emergence as a high-impact weapon off the bench. The Knicks’ significant rebounding advantage is being neutralized by their own regression in the clutch, where they have surrendered a 40-27 scoring margin over the last two fourth quarters. At +2.5, you are getting points with a home team that has solved the Knicks' half-court puzzle and possesses the perimeter defenders in Dyson Daniels and Nickeil Alexander-Walker to keep Jalen Brunson under constant duress. Until the Knicks prove they can survive the non-Towns minutes or find a consistent second scoring option to alleviate the pressure on Brunson, the Hawks are the more reliable side to keep this within a possession or win it outright. I am taking the points with the squad that has the superior defensive identity and the hotter hand late in games.

The thin air at 7,349 feet turns Estadio Alfredo Harp Helú into a paradise for hitters and a graveyard for pitching, setting the stage for a high-altitude slugfest between these NL West rivals. In a park that sits over 2,000 feet higher than Denver, pitching becomes an exercise in damage control rather than dominance, and that is where the San Diego edge emerges tonight. While Germán Márquez is a high-risk starter in this environment given his 2.41 HR/9 rate this season, the Diamondbacks' Zac Gallen is trending toward a danger zone of his own. Gallen’s strikeout rate has cratered to a career-low 4.9 K/9 while allowing a bloated 10.9 H/9 through his first five starts of 2026. In the Mexico City altitude, allowing that much contact is playing with fire. The Padres’ lineup, featuring a red-hot Ramon Laureano and the power of Xander Bogaerts, is better equipped to exploit a pitch-to-contact starter who isn’t missing bats right now. The true differentiator in this "launchpad" setting is the state of the bullpens. San Diego possesses a late-game nuclear option in Mason Miller, whose 19.7 K/9 and 100+ mph velocity essentially neutralize the atmospheric conditions by taking the defense out of the equation entirely. Arizona’s relief corps is currently compromised by injuries to several high-leverage arms, leaving them vulnerable if this turns into a war of attrition. Between San Diego’s superior defensive efficiency—committing half the errors of Arizona this season—and an elite closer who can reliably shorten the game, the Padres are the right side to back while they are riding a 14-2 hot streak.

The lights are bright at Globe Life Field as the first-place Oakland Athletics look to tighten their grip on the AL West against a Texas Rangers squad desperately trying to find its footing after a blowout loss. This matchup features a fascinating clash of left-handed starters, but the underlying data suggests these two southpaws are headed in completely different directions. Jeffrey Springs is the anchor for Oakland tonight, and his 0.98 WHIP is no fluke. While his 3.34 ERA is solid, his 3.05 xERA proves he is actually suppressing quality contact better than the surface numbers show. He matches up perfectly against a Rangers core that is surprisingly vulnerable to lefties; star hitters like Josh Jung (.118 AVG vs LHP) and Corey Seager (.217 AVG vs LHP) have been neutralized by southpaws this month. With Springs sporting a 0% walk rate against left-handed hitters this season, he is built to dismantle the top of the Texas order. Conversely, MacKenzie Gore is a major regression candidate. Despite his high strikeout numbers, Gore’s 4.68 xERA is more than half a run higher than his actual ERA, and his 4.1 BB/9 rate is a ticking time bomb against a disciplined Athletics lineup that already forced six walks out of him earlier this month. The situational factors also point toward the visitors. The Athletics have dominated the season series 4-1, and yesterday’s five-home run barrage proved their power travels just fine to Arlington. Carlos Cortes has been a revelation since his recall, homering three times in his last two games, while Nick Kurtz and Tyler Soderstrom continue to provide high-ceiling contact. Meanwhile, the Rangers are reeling from the loss of Wyatt Langford, going 2-4 in his absence with replacements like Sam Haggerty struggling to bridge the gap. Texas has lost 10 of their last 14 as home favorites, and with a bullpen missing four key arms, they lack the depth to survive if Gore's command wavers early. I'm riding with the hotter team and the superior starter at plus money.

The flags at Kauffman Stadium are blowing straight in from right field tonight as the Angels and Royals prepare for a duel between two of the most volatile arms in the American League. While the market is leaning toward the Royals based on Cole Ragans’ unblemished home ERA, the underlying data suggests we are looking at two pitchers trending in opposite directions, making the plus-money on the road team the sharp side of the board. Walbert Urena is the arm to watch here, coming off a breakout performance where he touched 102 mph and struck out eight while significantly cleaning up his command. His 2.35 ERA is backed by an elite strikeout rate, and he faces a Kansas City lineup that is missing its primary leadoff spark, Maikel Garcia, who remains out with an elbow injury. The Royals' offense has relied heavily on rookie Carter Jensen, but with 9 mph winds blowing in from right field, the lefty-heavy power core of the Royals—including Jensen, Vinnie Pasquantino, and Jac Caglianone—is facing a significant environmental headwind that could turn potential home runs into flyouts. Conversely, the Angels (12-15) have built a lineup specifically designed to exploit Ragans’ current mechanical crisis. Ragans is coming off a nightmare outing where he walked eight batters and surrendered three home runs, and his xERA of 6.55 suggests he has actually been lucky to have a 6.00 ERA. Los Angeles is stacking seven right-handed or switch-hitting bats, including Oswald Peraza, who is slugging .750 against southpaws, and Mike Trout, who remains the most dangerous hitter in this series. In a matchup where both bullpens are vulnerable, I’ll take the pitcher with the triple-digit heat and the lineup that is better suited to handle the park conditions against a team currently sitting at 9-17.

The lights of Daikin Park are burning bright tonight as the Houston Astros look to play spoiler against a red-hot Yankees squad that seems like they've forgotten how to lose. It's a battle of the young arms in the Lonestar State, with New York putting their seven-game winning streak on the line against a desperate home squad. The betting market is leaning heavily into the momentum of the Pinstripes, but the smart money is looking at the massive divergence between these two starters' actual performance and their underlying metrics. Ryan Weathers has been getting away with murder lately, sporting a 3.18 ERA that masks a much more concerning 4.62 xERA. He’s been a flyball pitcher playing with fire, and in a hitter-friendly park like this, that luck is about to run out. Mike Burrows is the inverse story. His 6.75 ERA screams "auto-fade" to the public, but his 3.89 xERA tells us he’s actually pitching like a solid mid-rotation starter who has been betrayed by high hit totals and a shaky defense. While Houston’s defense has been a below-average unit, Burrows is inducing the right kind of contact to eventually see his luck turn. The Yankees' offense is lethal, but they take a significant hit tonight with Giancarlo Stanton out of the lineup due to a fresh calf injury sustained just yesterday. Replacing Stanton’s power with Amed Rosario changes the protection in the middle of that order, giving Burrows a much clearer path to navigating five or six efficient innings. The deciding factor, however, is the matchup nightmare in the Houston box. Ryan Weathers struggles significantly in night games (6.23 Night ERA) and he is running straight into Yordan Alvarez, who is currently the most dangerous man in baseball against left-handed pitching. Alvarez is sporting a 1.439 OPS in the split, and with Houston surrounding him with eight right-handed power threats, Weathers won't have a single easy out. In a game where the better pitcher on paper is actually the weaker arm by expected metrics, getting the Astros at +130 on their home dirt is the definition of a high-value play. The streak ends tonight.

The roof is closed tonight at American Family Field as the surging Pirates look to clinch their first series in Milwaukee in years, while the Brewers desperately search for an answer to a four-game skid that has seen their offense nearly vanish. After Paul Skenes flirted with perfection yesterday, the Pirates turn to veteran Mitch Keller to keep the momentum rolling against Milwaukee's flamethrower Jacob Misiorowski. The market has installed the Brewers as favorites here, likely banking on Misiorowski's elite "stuff" and Keller's historically poor record against this organization. But we aren't betting on history; we are betting on what’s happening in April 2026. Misiorowski is a strikeout machine, averaging 14.2 K/9, but he is a high-variance arm who rarely works deep into games. When he exits, he hands the ball to a Brewers bullpen that has been a house of cards lately, with primary arms like Trevor Megill and Angel Zerpa carrying ERAs over 6.00. Contrast that with a Pirates bullpen anchored by Gregory Soto and Dennis Santana, both of whom have been near-automatic and remain fresh after yesterday's light workload. The real edge here is the massive disparity in offensive confidence. Milwaukee’s lineup is currently a shell of its projected self, having managed just one hit in yesterday’s shutout and totaling only one home run over their last nine games. While Brice Turang remains a spark, the rest of the order is struggling to generate hard contact. The Pirates, meanwhile, have found a new gear with the arrival of Konnor Griffin, who homered in his debut yesterday, and Oneil Cruz, who is currently hitting the ball harder than anyone in the league. Keller doesn't need to be perfect; he just needs to be the efficient innings-eater he has been all season to outlast the Brewers' prospect and get the game to his superior relief corps. At +120, I’m riding the hot hand in Pittsburgh.

The lights are bright at Great American Ball Park tonight as the Reds look to secure a series win over the visiting Tigers in front of a raucous Hall of Fame weekend crowd. After yesterday's 9-8 walk-off thriller, Cincinnati finds itself in a prime position to capitalize on a massive pitching discrepancy that the betting market hasn't fully adjusted for yet. This game hinges on Jack Flaherty’s catastrophic command issues; he has issued 20 walks in just 23.1 innings this season, including a disastrous 6-walk outing in his last start. In a small park like Cincinnati, with the temperature hitting 75 degrees and the wind blowing out to right field, those free passes are going to turn into multi-run home runs against a Reds lineup that is currently leading the league in contact quality and barrel rate. While Brady Singer’s 5.32 season ERA might look ugly on paper, he is a different animal when he sees the Old English D on the opposing jerseys. Singer is 7-1 in his career against Detroit with a 3.16 ERA, and he’s coming off back-to-back six-inning quality starts that show he has finally stabilized his velocity. He relies on his sinker to induce ground balls, and the Reds' defense is elite right now, sporting a .987 fielding percentage that provides exactly the kind of support a contact-oriented pitcher needs. Detroit’s lineup is also significantly weaker tonight with Gleyber Torres sitting out for rest, forcing a struggling Javier Baez into a larger role in an offense that has already been abysmal on the road this year. The situational factors here are just too heavy to ignore. The Tigers are a bottom-tier road team at 4-11, while the Reds are 17-9 overall and playing with the emotional lift of a franchise celebration weekend. Cincinnati's bullpen was taxed yesterday, but Detroit is in even worse shape after Kenley Jansen’s high-leverage blowup and Framber Valdez’s early exit forced their middle relief into heavy usage. Between Flaherty’s inability to find the strike zone and Singer’s historical dominance over this specific Detroit roster, the value is clearly on the home side. I’m riding with the Reds to keep the momentum going and punish those walks.

A desperate Phillies squad looks to snap a double-digit slide as their ace returns to the mound, but they face a Braves powerhouse that has turned Truist Park into a house of horrors for division rivals. This matchup is a tale of two trajectories: Atlanta is 19-8 and 9-1 in their last ten games, while Philadelphia (8-18) has spiraled into a 10-game losing streak that has them sitting ten and a half games back in the division before May has even arrived. The focal point tonight is Zack Wheeler’s return from Thoracic Outlet Syndrome surgery, and the data from his rehab starts is genuinely concerning. Wheeler’s fastball velocity averaged just 92.9 mph in the minors—nearly three miles per hour below his career baseline—and he surrendered a 5.85 ERA over twenty rehab innings. Expecting him to find his rhythm against an Atlanta offense leading the league with 5.7 runs per game is a massive gamble. Bryce Elder, meanwhile, has been nearly untouchable at home with a 1.10 ERA at Truist Park. While his 2.66 xERA suggests some results have been fortunate, he remains far more reliable than a returning pitcher who might be capped at 70-80 pitches. The situational advantages also heavily favor the Braves. With J.T. Realmuto on the shelf, the Phillies have a significant defensive and offensive void at catcher that Rafael Marchan has not been able to fill. Compare that to Atlanta’s Drake Baldwin, who is slashing .320/.391/.563 and has stabilized the middle of their order. The Braves have already dominated this season series, winning all four matchups by a combined score of 21-6. Philadelphia’s bullpen is shorthanded without Jhoan Duran, and if Wheeler exits early, a relief unit with a 5.14 ERA will be left to face a Braves lineup featuring Matt Olson and Michael Harris II. Everything points toward Atlanta extending the Phillies' misery tonight.

Under the bright lights of FOX at Dodger Stadium, the red-hot Chicago Cubs look to push their winning streak to 11 against a Dodgers squad searching for answers. This matchup features a stark contrast in starting pitching reliability that the market hasn't fully accounted for yet, providing a massive opportunity on the plus-money side. Colin Rea enters this contest as the definition of a stabilized anchor for the Cubs' rotation, carrying a 3.00 ERA and a lean 1.04 WHIP through his recent starts. On the other side, Roki Sasaki is struggling significantly in his transition to the big leagues. Despite the massive hype, Sasaki's 6.11 ERA and 1.87 WHIP are backed by a concerning 14.1% walk rate, which is a recipe for disaster against a Cubs lineup currently averaging over seven runs per game during this streak. The Sasaki experience has been a series of short, high-stress outings where he has only completed five innings once in four starts this season. His inability to find the strike zone—evidenced by his 11 walks in his last 13.2 innings—means the Dodgers' bullpen will likely be tasked with another heavy workload tonight. That is a massive problem because the Los Angeles relief corps is reeling after blowing a four-run lead yesterday. High-leverage arms like Tanner Scott and Alex Vesia are coming off a night where they both surrendered runs and threw high-stress pitches. With the news that Dodgers catcher Will Smith is a late scratch today due to a back issue, Sasaki loses his most experienced battery mate and a key bat that provided much of the team's offense yesterday. Chicago isn't just winning; they are dominating the margins and playing with a level of confidence that is hard to bet against. Their defense is currently ranked #1 in MLB with +11 Outs Above Average, providing Rea with an elite safety net that allows him to pitch to contact efficiently. Meanwhile, the Cubs' bats are relentless, led by Moisés Ballesteros and Ian Happ, who are posting barrel rates that have significantly outpaced the Dodgers over the last week. When you combine a starting pitcher who is struggling to find the zone with a bullpen that is both taxed and searching for confidence, you don't bet against the hottest team in baseball. I'm taking the value on the Cubs to keep the streak alive and secure Craig Counsell’s 900th career win.

The Target Center is rocking tonight as the Minnesota Timberwolves look to push the three-time MVP and the Denver Nuggets to the brink of elimination in this pivotal Game 4. While the season-long data still gives Denver (54-28) the offensive edge, the reality of this series has been a complete physical hijacking by Minnesota (49-33) that the betting line hasn't fully caught up to yet. The story isn't just that Denver is losing; it's how they're losing. In Game 3, Minnesota didn't just win; they bullied the Nuggets in the restricted area, posting a staggering 68-34 advantage in points in the paint. This isn't a fluke—it's the result of a frontcourt rotation of Rudy Gobert, Julius Randle, and Naz Reid that has fundamentally broken Denver’s interior rhythm. Over the last five games, Minnesota’s defensive rating has sharpened to 111.0, and they’ve held opponents to a suffocating 49.7% eFG%. The tactical masterclass of Jaden McDaniels switching onto Jamal Murray has effectively neutralized Denver’s secondary engine, leaving Nikola Jokic to carry a massive volume load that resulted in a career-worst 7-of-26 shooting performance last time out. The depth disparity is the final nail here. While Denver has been forced to rely on end-of-rotation additions like Spencer Jones due to Peyton Watson’s absence and the off-season trade of Michael Porter Jr., Minnesota is getting elite production from its bench. Ayo Dosunmu has emerged as the series X-factor, providing a 25-point spark in Game 3 that Denver simply cannot match with their current second unit. With Aaron Gordon currently questionable with calf tightness, Denver risks being even more vulnerable on the glass and in transition defense. Minnesota has covered the spread in four of their last six meetings with Denver and boasts a +6.6 Net Rating over their last five games. At essentially a pick'em price, I’m riding with the team that has the health, the home-court energy, and the physical blueprint to dismantle the Nuggets' offense.
