Colorado Rockies @ Miami Marlins

Look, I don't care how ugly Alcantara's stat line is right now—an ERA at 8.47 and a WHIP of 1.67 would scare off the tourists, but the Rockies are a catastrophe at 10-50 and they're not even naming a starter. Miami's bats aren't world-beaters, but with Dane Myers hitting .315 and Agustín Ramírez showing some pop (7 HR), that's more than enough against a Rockies squad that can barely get out of their own way. If you don't have the guts to back the Marlins against historically bad competition at home, I'm not sure what you're waiting for—sometimes you just hold your nose and cash the ticket.

Houston Astros @ Pittsburgh Pirates

You want to know where the real edge is? Take a look at Paul Skenes—his ERA (2.15) and WHIP (0.92) scream dominance, and that .187 BAA tells me even Houston’s lineup is in for a long night. McCullers Jr. is tossing batting practice by comparison with a bloated 5.89 ERA and 1.69 WHIP, so even this light-hitting Pirates squad ought to scratch out enough against him. Pittsburgh’s got the only ace on the mound and the plus odds give you the gutsy payout, so if you trust pitching wins games, this is the spot to hammer.

Chicago Cubs @ Washington Nationals

I'm not buying what Trevor Williams is selling with that ugly ERA (5.69) and sky-high WHIP (1.45), especially when hitters are tagging him for a .291 average—he's a sitting duck for a Cubs lineup that can string together tough at-bats, even if their averages aren't flashy. Cade Horton may only have 20 innings under his belt, but he's shown sharper command (1.23 WHIP, .266 BAA) and hasn't wilted under pressure yet, which is more than I can say for Williams lately. Chicago's got the superior record (37-22) for a reason—they grind out wins and don't cough up games to weaker arms. If you want to sweat out a Nationals upset with Williams on the bump, be my guest, but I'm riding with the Cubs to handle business straight up.

Cleveland Guardians @ New York Yankees

Look, Rodón's got ace-level stuff right now—when you see a 2.60 ERA and a microscopic 0.94 WHIP, you know hitters are having a miserable time against him, and that .164 BAA seals it. Cleveland's best bats are respectable but unspectacular—Santana's .262 is their high-water mark, and there's a steep drop-off after him, so they don't have the kind of lineup that can punish a dominant lefty. Meanwhile, Judge is flat-out destroying baseballs (.391 AVG, 21 HR), and with Bellinger and Rice chipping in, the Yankees' offense can break a game open. Bibee's been shaky (3.86 ERA, 1.27 WHIP, .249 BAA), and facing this Bronx lineup in their own yard is asking for trouble. If you want to make real money, lay the run and a half—the Yanks are built to win by margin here, and I don't see the Guardians keeping pace.

Philadelphia Phillies @ Toronto Blue Jays

If you've watched Bowden Francis pitch this year, you know that 5.04 ERA and .271 BAA aren't lying—he's been hittable, and the Phillies' lineup is patient enough to exploit his tendency to fall behind in counts. Cristopher Sánchez, on the other hand, has been quietly reliable with a 3.32 ERA and .246 BAA, and the Phillies' veteran bats—Harper and Bohm especially—know how to grind out runs against pitchers who let traffic on the bases. Toronto's lineup has some bright spots with Kirk and Bichette, but the bottom half is a wasteland and won't threaten Sánchez much. I'm not overthinking it—the Phillies' edge on the mound and in lineup depth makes this a moneyline play, and if you've got the guts, you ride with the better team here.
