The read
Monday night at Rocket Arena brings two 4-2 teams to national TV, and only one of them looks like its record. Cleveland is 3-0 at home. The Thunder arrive without Jalen Williams, Cason Wallace, Chet Holmgren and Alex Caruso.
Since Caruso joined that list, OKC is 0-2. The Thunder lost 120-96 at Dallas and 119-98 at Houston, minus 45 combined. They trailed by 27 at the worst both nights, and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander sat the entire fourth quarter both times. The defense that lived on turnovers is gone. When healthy, OKC forced 26 Clippers turnovers, with 15 steals and 38 points off giveaways. Over the last two games it had 4 and 8 steals and 9 and 10 points off turnovers, while opponents shot 34-of-86 from three. Cleveland, meanwhile, has cut its turnovers from 21 and 23 in its first two games to 12, 9, 13 and 12 since.
The glass favors Cleveland too. Dallas and Houston beat OKC 35-16 in second-chance points. Next up are Jarrett Allen, coming off 25 and 11 on 12-of-16 at Milwaukee, and Evan Mobley, who scored 24 and 27 in two of the last three. OKC also can't stretch the floor. The Thunder are 15-of-64 from three in two games, and Jared McCain has missed 11 straight. The buzz about Ajay Mitchell scoring 30 and 29 as a starter came before Houston, where Ajay Mitchell started and scored 6 on 3-of-9.
The risks are real. Cleveland gives back leads. A 29-point lead at Philadelphia became an 8-point loss, and a 24-point lead over Brooklyn ended as a 4-point win. Only one of the three home wins would have covered this number. Gilgeous-Alexander scored 26 on 10-of-20 even in the Houston blowout, and one big night plus a shooting bounce-back covers 4.5. Peyton Watson is a game-time decision with hamstring soreness. But Watson is 3-of-14 over the last two games, and Sam Merrill, Mario Hezonja and Meleek Thomas can absorb those minutes, so the pick holds either way.
The market is still pricing in the Thunder's name. The players OKC actually has are losing on the glass and on the perimeter. Lay the 4.5 at -104, and confirm Watson and the lineups before tip.

The research
The dated measurements the app shows under this card — observations with their sample and source, not predictions.
HEAD-TO-HEAD
OKC won last season's series 2-0
2-0Oklahoma City beat Cleveland both times last season, by 20 a game. Two games is a tiny sample, and margins that wide against a good opponent rarely repeat as a pattern. This is the first meeting this season, so treat the sweep as a mild point in OKC's favor and let current form and the Cleveland injury report carry more weight.
REPLACEMENT
Cason Wallace is OUT for OKC
OUTOklahoma City's Cason Wallace had surgery Friday to repair his left shoulder and is out at Cleveland. He is one of the Thunder's top perimeter defenders. Along with Jalen Williams, Chet Holmgren and Alex Caruso, OKC is missing a big chunk of its rotation tonight.
Alex Caruso is OUT for OKC
OUTAlex Caruso is out for Oklahoma City at Cleveland with a right ankle sprain. He is another perimeter defender gone along with Wallace, and that leaves the Thunder thin on the guards who usually defend the Cavaliers' backcourt.
Khalifa Diop is OUT for CLE
OUTKhalifa Diop is on G League assignment for Cleveland. No betting impact.
Jalen Williams is OUT for OKC
OUTJalen Williams is out after left ankle surgery, the second scorer behind the Thunder's top option. With Holmgren, Wallace and Caruso also out, OKC at Cleveland is a short-handed road team, and the depth of that list matters more than any single name.
Chet Holmgren is OUT for OKC
OUTChet Holmgren is out for Oklahoma City at Cleveland after a biological treatment on his right knee. OKC loses its rim protector, and with Williams, Wallace and Caruso also out, Cleveland's interior offense gets an easier night.
Thomas Sorber is OUT for OKC
OUTThomas Sorber is out for Oklahoma City with a right knee surgery recovery. OKC just exercised his third-year team option. He was not part of the active rotation, so there is no change to the game.
Nikola Topic is OUT for OKC
OUTNikola Topic stays out for Oklahoma City after low back surgery and remains on the inactive list. This is a long-running absence with no effect on tonight's line.
Jaylon Tyson is OUT for CLE
OUTJaylon Tyson is out for Cleveland against Oklahoma City with a right ankle sprain. He is a rotation wing, a far smaller loss than the long list OKC brings into this game.
Nae'Qwan Tomlin is OUT for CLE
OUTCleveland's Nae'Qwan Tomlin is out with a low back stress reaction. Stress reactions often take weeks. He is a depth forward, so the effect on tonight's game is small.
Ernest Udeh, Jr. is OUT for CLE
OUTErnest Udeh Jr. is with Cleveland's G League affiliate on a two-way deal. No betting impact.
Peyton Watson is Questionable for CLE
QuestionableWatson is questionable with right hamstring tightness and soreness. Hamstrings can linger, so lean toward limited minutes even if he plays. He is a wing defender, which matters against a team like Oklahoma City.
SITUATIONAL
Both sides on 2 days rest
2d bothOklahoma City and Cleveland are both on two days of rest, so the schedule gives neither side an edge. Focus on Watson's hamstring and OKC's sweep last season.

Props on this game
2- GARY'S PICKEVAN MOBLEYPOINTS OVER 17.5
Mobley is scoring like a man who has decided the offense runs through him when the shot clock gets stuck. He put up 24 on Washington with five threes and 27 on 11 of 16 at Milwaukee in only 25 minutes, and before that he was steady at 18 and 20 against real frontcourts. The jumper is the change. Once he started stepping out and making threes, his floor rose, because now he scores when the paint is crowded too.
Look at who guards him tonight. Chet Holmgren is out with the tendon tear, Jalen Williams is out after ankle surgery, and the Thunder have been starting Kenrich Williams at the four. Kenrich is a tough, smart player giving up real size, and the help behind him is Hartenstein and a rookie in Aday Mara who is still learning where to be. Dallas and Houston both carved up this version of the Thunder, and neither has a big who can face up, shoot over a smaller defender and finish lobs like Mobley can.
The Atlanta game at 11 is the risk: Harden and Mitchell took over and Mobley turned facilitator. At home against a thin, undersized front line, I expect Atkinson to keep going to the mismatch. Getting this close to even money is a fair price for a player trending up against the softest interior he has seen.
- GARY'S PICKSHAI GILGEOUS-ALEXANDERPOINTS UNDER 30.5
This number assumes Shai can carry a gutted roster to 31 against one of the longest defenses in the league, and I think it asks too much. With Jalen Williams, Holmgren, Wallace and Caruso all out, every defense he sees loads up on him. Dallas held him to 21 on 7 of 19. Houston got him to 26, and he sat the entire fourth quarter both nights because the games were gone.
Cleveland can make his nights that uncomfortable. Mobley and Allen sit behind the point of attack, so Shai's drives finish into two rim protectors, and his three ball has been streaky to start the year. Ajay Mitchell is cooking right now, so some of the scoring load shifts to him, and McCain will keep getting shots even while he is cold.
The worry is a close game where Shai plays 38 minutes and lives at the line. That can happen, and it is why I am not leaning hard. Cleveland is laying points at home, though, and the likelier script has the Cavs pulling away in the second half with Daigneault protecting his only star for the rematch. A shortened night or a heavily guarded one both land under this line.
