The read
The 4-0 Thunder walk into American Airlines Center for a 9:30 ESPN tip, but this isn't the team that won the first three. Holmgren, Jalen Williams, Wallace and Caruso are all out, it's OKC's third game in four nights, and the number still asks them to win by six on the road.
Three of those wins came with the full group: +12 at San Antonio, +12 against Denver and +7 against the Clippers. The only look at this version is an 11-point home win over a 1-2 Phoenix team. Devin Booker scored 3 points in 34 minutes that night, and the Suns still put up 114. That win ran through Ajay Mitchell's 30 points on 10-16 shooting. Mitchell had scored 4, 12 and 18 in his first three games, and is now questionable with a right ankle sprain. Behind Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Jared McCain the roster gets thin fast. Bennett Stirtz, Josh Dix and Kenrich Williams went 2-15 for 10 points in 71 minutes on Monday.
The defense lost its engine too. Fully healthy, OKC forced 26 turnovers against the Clippers and 22 against Denver. Against Phoenix it forced 13, scored 2 fast-break points, and gave up 50 three-point attempts and 14 offensive rebounds.
Dallas looks like a different team with Cooper Flagg and Kyrie Irving on the floor: +16 at Indiana, +4 at Miami, and -18 at a 4-0 Houston. The 16-point home loss to San Antonio came with both of them sitting. Flagg's shoulder looks fine after 29 points and 11 assists at Miami.
This isn't a lock. Dallas averages 18.5 turnovers and gave up 32 points off them to Houston. With Lively out, they've allowed 48 to 64 paint points every night, and that's where Isaiah Hartenstein does his damage after going for 15 and 13 on Monday. Dallas also commits 21 to 27 fouls a game, which is risky against Gilgeous-Alexander. And Irving is questionable; if he sits, this read gets a lot weaker.
Still, I think Gilgeous-Alexander probably wins this game and the margin lands inside the number. Give me the Mavericks plus the points.

HEAD-TO-HEAD
OKC won last season's series 3-0
3-0Oklahoma City beat Dallas three times last season, winning by 13.7 points per game. Tonight's Thunder team is missing Jalen Williams, Holmgren, Caruso and Wallace. That makes last season's margin a weak guide for this game.
REPLACEMENT
Santi Aldama is OUT for DAL
OUTDallas is without Santi Aldama after knee surgery. Dereck Lively II is also out, so the Mavericks are thin up front against Oklahoma City.
Dereck Lively II is OUT for DAL
OUTDallas is without Dereck Lively II after foot surgery. Along with Santi Aldama, that leaves the Mavericks without two big men against a team that has won four straight.
Tarik Biberovic is OUT for DAL
OUTTarik Biberovic is out for Dallas with right heel bursitis after being listed as doubtful. He joins Santi Aldama and Dereck Lively II on a thin Dallas injury list.
Cason Wallace is OUT for OKC
OUTCason Wallace has a torn left shoulder labrum, so this is a longer absence. He is one of six Thunder players out in Dallas, along with Jalen Williams, Chet Holmgren and Alex Caruso. Oklahoma City's depth is being tested hard tonight.
Jalen Williams is OUT for OKC
OUTJalen Williams has a left ankle fracture, so he will be out for a long time. He sits along with Holmgren, Caruso and Wallace. That is a lot of talent gone for one night in Dallas, so any OKC number based on full strength needs adjusting.
Chet Holmgren is OUT for OKC
OUTChet Holmgren sits with right knee patellar tendinitis. Tendinitis tends to come and go, so his status may stay week to week. In Dallas tonight, he is one of several key Thunder players out, which makes Oklahoma City much thinner than usual.
Thomas Sorber is OUT for OKC
OUTThomas Sorber is out after right knee surgery, a long-term absence that should already be built into Oklahoma City's rotation and the line.
Nikola Topic is OUT for OKC
OUTNikola Topic stays inactive after low back surgery. His absence is long-running and should already be priced in.
Sergio De Larrea is OUT for DAL
OUTSergio De Larrea is out for Dallas with a right knee sprain. That is a small rotation change compared with the long list of Thunder absences in this game.
Alex Caruso is OUT for OKC
OUTAlex Caruso sits with a right ankle sprain. With Wallace and Williams also out, Oklahoma City is missing a lot of perimeter defenders. That could help Dallas guards more than usual tonight.
Caleb Martin is Questionable for DAL
QuestionableCaleb Martin is questionable for Dallas with a right thumb sprain. Naji Marshall is also questionable, so Dallas may be thin on the wing against a depleted Thunder team.
Naji Marshall is Questionable for DAL
QuestionableNaji Marshall is questionable with an illness. Illness calls are often decided close to tipoff, so watch the late news for Dallas.
Ajay Mitchell is Questionable for OKC
QuestionableMitchell has a right ankle sprain and was already listed questionable on Tuesday, with nothing firmer since. An absence would push his guard minutes to other members of the Thunder rotation. Props tied to Oklahoma City's backcourt are the ones most likely to shift once his status is settled.
Kyrie Irving is Questionable for DAL
QuestionableIrving's tag is listed as left knee injury management, a planned approach to his workload more than a fresh injury. It has held since Tuesday's report. Whether he plays decides who handles the ball for Dallas, so wait for the late update before acting on Mavericks guard props or the side.
SITUATIONAL
Both sides on 2 days rest
2d bothOklahoma City and Dallas are both on 2 days rest, so rest is even. The bigger variables in this game are the questionable tags on Mitchell and Irving.
STREAK
OKC has won 4 straight
W4Oklahoma City is 4-0 with a 10.5-point average margin, which means the games have mostly been over well before the final minutes. That is a four-game sample with no opponent detail on the sheet. Dallas is without Dereck Lively II, Santi Aldama and Tarik Biberovic tonight. A short-handed home team facing a team that keeps winning big is the setup the market tends to price heavily, so look at the spread as well as the side.

Props on this game
2- GARY'S PICKCOOPER FLAGGPOINTS OVER 23.5
The Thunder walk into Dallas without the four players who make their defense what it is. Jalen Williams, Cason Wallace and Alex Caruso are all out, and Chet Holmgren is gone from the back line. That strips away their best point-of-attack defenders and their rim protector in one stroke. The likely primary assignment on Flagg is Kenrich Williams or Ajay Mitchell, a big step down from what this team normally throws at a scorer.
On the Dallas side, the touches are piling up on Flagg. Naji Marshall is doubtful with an illness, Sergio de Larrea is out with a knee sprain, and Kyrie Irving is questionable with knee management. Even if Irving plays, Flagg is the one running the offense. Against Miami he played 40 minutes, took 23 shots and dropped 29 with 11 assists. In the opener at Houston he put up 32 on 17 shots. The one quiet night was 14 points in 17 minutes in Indiana when he hurt his shoulder, and he has since come back from that without any limit on his minutes.
The Thunder also scored only 96 and 108 in two of their wins, and a short-handed rotation on game three in four nights is not going to blow anybody out. A close game keeps Flagg on the floor into the fourth quarter. I'll take a full-workload Flagg against a gutted perimeter defense at even money.
- GARY'S PICKISAIAH HARTENSTEINREBOUNDS OVER 9.5
With Holmgren out, Hartenstein is the only real big man Oklahoma City trusts. Monday against Phoenix the Thunder started Kenrich Williams at the four, and Hartenstein cleaned up 13 rebounds in 26 minutes. The night before he grabbed 12 even with Holmgren on the floor taking some of the boards. Aday Mara is the backup, and he has picked up fouls in a hurry, which keeps Hartenstein's minutes in the high twenties.
Dallas plays into this. They are without Dereck Lively, and Daniel Gafford has fouled out or played limited minutes in some of his games. Gafford is the only big that can stand up to Hartenstein inside, and when he sits, Dallas goes to Morez Johnson or slides P.J. Washington to center. That leaves Hartenstein as the biggest body near the glass for long stretches.
The Mavericks also shoot a lot of threes and miss plenty of them. They went 14 for 46 from deep in Miami and 11 for 38 in Houston. Long misses and a small Thunder lineup that does not crash the defensive glass mean more of those boards fall to Hartenstein. The price is a bit steep, but his role and the matchup both point to double digits.
