The read
It's Game 5 at Tropicana Field, the night after a four-hour, 20-minute, 12-inning thriller kept the Rays alive. Milwaukee is one win from a title, and Tampa Bay is playing to make it "two more days."
The starting pitchers are where this tilts. Jacob Misiorowski is on normal four days' rest, and Pat Murphy kept Misiorowski out of Game 4 relief to protect this start. Misiorowski already beat this lineup in Game 1, allowing 1 run over 5 innings. Drew Rasmussen is going on three days' rest for the first time since working as an opener in 2024. Four days ago, the Brewers chased Rasmussen after 3.2 innings, 89 pitches and 3 runs.
The handedness favors Milwaukee too. Lefties hit .114 with a .378 OPS against Misiorowski this year, which is bad news for Aranda, Hicks, Simpson and switch-hitting Walls. Milwaukee's six left-handed bats get the softer side of Rasmussen's split: a .568 OPS by lefties against .510 by righties.
The bats aren't close right now. The Rays carry a .601 OPS and score 3.54 runs per game this postseason. Caminero plays on a foot he aggravated last night. The bottom of the order is Williamson at 2 for 16, Vilade at 1 for 10 and Walls at 4 for 36 with 15 strikeouts. Milwaukee counters with Contreras at 18 for 47 with 3 homers, Chourio at 16 for 55, and Pratt coming off a 4-for-5 night with a homer.
Why I believe tonight: this team has done it before. In the NLDS, the Brewers lost Game 3 in San Diego 4-3, then closed the series 3-1 the next night. A club that's 10-2 this postseason and swept the Dodgers doesn't crack over one blown save in the 12th. "It's supposed to test you" sounds like a team that took the punch.
The risk is Misiorowski's leash. None of the last five starts went past 5.1 innings, Murphy says it could be short, and Ashby, Uribe, Hall, May and Senzatela all pitched last night. Megill threw just 5 pitches and Henderson has three days off to give length. Still, if Rasmussen surprises and goes deep, the Rays become live at +120 in their own dome.
Milwaukee has the fresher starter, the better bats and a habit of answering losses. Brewers to finish it.
The research
The dated measurements the app shows under this card — observations with their sample and source, not predictions.
HEAT CHECK
Jonny DeLuca: .857 OPS in Last 15 Days
.857DeLuca has hit better than usual lately: a .857 OPS over his last 42 AB, 0.129 above his .728 season mark. In that few at-bats, a couple of extra-base hits move the number a lot. His full season, with 11 home runs, is the better guide to who he is, and the hot stretch is likely to drift back toward it. Against a 1.5 total-bases line, start from the season baseline and treat the recent bump as a smaller factor.
COOLING OFF
Yandy Diaz: .450 OPS in Last 15 Days
.450Diaz has been close to an automatic out lately: a .450 OPS, 0.355 below his .805 season mark. That covers only 40 AB, where a handful of soft outs can sink the number. His full season says he is a solid hitter, and a slump this short usually drifts back toward it. Before fading him in a prop or lineup spot tonight, give the .805 more weight than the cold stretch.
Ryan Vilade: .411 OPS in Last 15 Days
.411Vilade has barely reached base or hit for power lately, a .411 OPS that sits 0.339 below his .750 season line. The slump covers just 30 AB, a sample where a few bad swings swing everything. Cold spells that short tend to move back toward the season number. When sizing up his spot in this lineup, lean on the .750 more than the last two weeks.
BULLPEN
Milwaukee Brewers pen: 17 relief IP across 3 games
17 IPAaron Ashby worked 2 games (59 pitches); Trevor Megill worked 1 game (5 pitches; 2.63 season ERA over 61.2 IP). The pen allowed 2 ER in that 17-IP span (Oct 24–Oct 27).
Tampa Bay Rays pen: 16.2 relief IP across 3 games
16.2 IPTyler Wells worked all 3 games (48 pitches); Bryan Baker worked 1 game (21 pitches; 1.44 season ERA over 62.1 IP). The pen allowed 8 ER in that 16.2-IP span (Oct 24–Oct 27).
HEAD-TO-HEAD
Brewers lead Rays 3-1 in the series
3-1Brewers lead the series 3-1 over Rays. TB took the last meeting 4-3, a revenge spot.
STREAK
MIL have won 5 straight
W5Five straight wins, and Milwaukee has outscored opponents by 17 runs in that stretch, so these have mostly been comfortable games. Five games is a short window, and there's no detail on who they beat or who has carried it, so this is current form more than identity. Hot streaks this short usually cool. On the road at Tampa Bay, lean on the run margin over the win count when deciding how much the streak should move your number.
TEAM RECORD
Brewers 8-0 in Jacob Misiorowski's last 8 starts
8-0Milwaukee keeps winning when Misiorowski starts, but a team record counts the lineup's runs and the bullpen's innings along with his own pitching. Eight starts is a short run, and the sheet gives no line on how he pitched in those games, so the streak describes the club behind him more than the arm. Runs like this end. At Tampa Bay, judge him on the matchup and the price, and let the 8-0 add a little confidence without carrying the case.
REGRESSION
Tampa Bay Rays are 25-14 in one-run games (.641 win rate)
25-14Tampa Bay Rays are 25-14 in one-run games in the 2026 regular season (39 completed games). They are 73-50 in their other 123 completed games.

Props on this game
2- GARY'S PICKDREW RASMUSSENPITCHER WALKS UNDER 1.5
I'm on Drew Rasmussen under 1.5 walks at -171.
Rasmussen throws strikes. He issued 37 walks across 34 starts this year, a little over one per outing, and he has walked three total over his last three starts. One of those was the seven-inning, one-walk night in Cleveland that put the Rays one win from this Series.
The bigger factor tonight is length. He's starting on three days' rest after throwing 89 pitches Saturday, and nobody has put a number on his workload. The board has his outs line at 12.5, so the market expects about four innings. Fewer batters faced means fewer chances to hand out a second free pass. Vic Carapazza is behind the plate, and his games have run a touch below league walk levels this season.
The case against is this Brewers lineup, which grinds at bats. Bauers and Turang have both walked over 100 times counting the playoffs. Yelich drew two walks last night. Milwaukee got two free passes off Rasmussen in Game 2, to Bauers and Pratt, in only 3.2 innings. Short rest can show up as shaky command before it shows up in velocity. And with the Rays using seven pitchers last night, Cash may ask Rasmussen to push deeper than he'd like.
Even so, at this price I'll trust a strike thrower on what should be a short night.
- GARY'S PICKJONATHAN ARANDAH+R+RBI OVER 0.5
I'm on Jonathan Aranda over 0.5 hits plus runs plus RBIs at -179.
He bats second tonight against a right-hander, which is the side where he did nearly all his damage this year: an .837 OPS and 19 of his 22 homers. He has also already seen this arm in this Series. In Game 1 he singled off Jacob Misiorowski in the first, walked off him in the fourth and went 3 for 3 on the night. He scored the Rays' first run.
The swing is still there through the cold stretch. Last night he hit a 101.8 mph liner that Brice Turang turned into a double play. That was a hard ball that found a glove. The Game 1 reporting on Misiorowski said his spin was down and Rays hitters kept fouling pitches off to extend counts. Batting second gets Aranda four or more trips most nights, and one hit, one run or one RBI cashes this.
The case against is real. He's 0 for 7 over the last two games and 3 for 17 over the past week. Misiorowski has been brutal on left-handed hitters all season. Caminero, one of the bats behind Aranda, is playing on a sore foot, which trims Aranda's chances to score if he does reach. The price is steep, but I'll back what Aranda has already done against this pitcher on this stage.
