The read
I'm laying the 3.5 with the Rams at home. On a per-play basis, this Rams defense has been one of the stingiest in football. It allows 4.2 yards per play and under 5 yards per pass attempt, opponents convert just 33% on third down, and it gives up explosive plays only 5.4% of the time. It just held Philadelphia to 0-for-12 on third down. Now it gets reinforcements: Aaron Donald and CB Jaylen Watson are both back with no injury designation, alongside Trent McDuffie, who has allowed 2 catches for 14 yards in man coverage all year.
Buffalo is coming in thin at receiver. Joshua Palmer is out, DJ Moore is questionable after barely practicing, and rookie Skyler Bell makes his NFL debut on Monday night. The Bills offense has dipped from 3.67 points per drive in Weeks 1–2 to 2.27 in Weeks 3–4, with 7 giveaways in that span. They also lose DT Ed Oliver up front.
The Rams' 2-2 record undersells them. They average 427 yards a game but only 21 points, because they've turned it over at least twice in every game and kept starting drives in bad field position. Turnovers and field position swing a lot from week to week. Yardage is more stable, and Stafford, last year's MVP, doesn't throw 6 picks in 4 games for long. Buffalo's pass defense, meanwhile, allows 7.5 yards per attempt and a 103 passer rating to opposing QBs.
The matchup I like most is near the goal line. Josh Allen's legs are Buffalo's red-zone offense, with 6 rushing TDs already. But the Rams allow only 32% success inside their own 10, while Buffalo allows 60% inside its own. Add the Rams finally getting a home game after four straight in four time zones, and Buffalo's first road trip since Week 1, and I'll take the Rams to win by 4+.
The risks: Rams special teams have been bad all year, and safety Quentin Lake is questionable. Both could make it close.

QUARTERBACK
Matthew Stafford is the projected starting quarterback for LAR
7.34 Y/AThrough 4 games in 2026, Matthew Stafford threw for 1189 passing yards, completed 61.1% of his passes and averaged 7.34 yards per attempt. Last season over 17 games he threw for 4707 yards, completed 65% and averaged 7.88 yards per attempt, 46-8 touchdowns to interceptions. This season's 6-6 touchdown-to-interception line is 4 games in.
Josh Allen is the projected starting quarterback for BUF
8.73 Y/AThrough 4 games in 2026, Josh Allen threw for 1039 passing yards, completed 66.4% of his passes and averaged 8.73 yards per attempt. Last season over 17 games he threw for 3668 yards, completed 69.3% and averaged 7.97 yards per attempt, 25-10 touchdowns to interceptions. This season's 6-3 touchdown-to-interception line is 4 games in.
PASS RUSH
BUF: 2.5 sacks recorded per game to LAR's 1.75
0.75 SACKSBUF is at 2.5 sacks recorded per game over 4 games; LAR is at 1.75 over 4 games. Those are what each defense has allowed in this season's games through Oct 11.
LAR: 1.5 sacks taken per game to BUF's 2.25
0.75 SACKSBUF is at 2.25 sacks taken per game over 4 games; LAR is at 1.5 over 4 games. Those are this season's games through Oct 11. Last season BUF was at 2.86 over 17 games and LAR at 1.77 over 17 games.
PACE & SCRIPT
BUF: 31.8 points per game to LAR's 21.3
10.5 PPGBuffalo is scoring about ten more points a game than the Rams through four games. Buffalo's 31.8 is a step up from 28.3 last season, so their offense looks like itself. The Rams are the surprise: 21.3 now against 30.5 last season, a big drop over a four-game sample. In BUF @ LAR, the Rams' number is the one more likely to climb back, so a low Rams team total deserves a second look before you assume this offense is broken.
LAR: 20.8 points allowed per game to BUF's 26.8
6 PPGBuffalo is allowing 26.8 points a game through four games, up from 21.5 last season, while the Rams are at 20.8, right in line with last year's 20.4. The Rams defense looks like its usual self. Buffalo's jump comes from four games and could ease back toward last year, but on the road against a Rams offense throwing it well, the Bills defense has more to prove.
LAR: 69 offensive plays per game to BUF's 59.5
9.5 PLAYSBUF is at 59.5 offensive plays per game over 4 games; LAR is at 69 over 4 games. Those are this season's games through Oct 11. Last season BUF was at 63.6 over 17 games and LAR at 63.9 over 17 games.
LAR: 31:19 time of possession per game to BUF's 28:06
3:12 TOPBUF is at 28:06 time of possession per game over 4 games; LAR is at 31:19 over 4 games. Those are this season's games through Oct 11. Last season BUF was at 33:09 over 17 games and LAR at 30:46 over 17 games.
TURNOVERS
BUF: 1.25 takeaways per game to LAR's 0.75
0.5 TOBUF is at 1.25 takeaways per game over 4 games; LAR is at 0.75 over 4 games. Those are what each defense has allowed in this season's games through Oct 11.
LAR: 0.5 fumbles lost per game to BUF's 1
0.5 FUMBUF is at 1 fumbles lost per game over 4 games; LAR is at 0.5 over 4 games. Those are this season's games through Oct 11. Last season BUF was at 0.53 over 17 games and LAR at 0.41 over 17 games.
EXPLOSIVE PLAYS
BUF: 6.58 yards per play to LAR's 6.1
0.48 Y/PBuffalo is ahead of last season's 5.94 over 4 games, and its last game ran through Josh Allen deep: 5 plays of 20+ yards, led by 51 to Khalil Shakir. The Rams sit close to last season's 6.15 with Stafford leaning on Puka Nacua. Four games is a thin sample for Buffalo's jump, so expect some settling, but two efficient offenses point toward a game decided by which defense gets stops.
RED ZONE
BUF: 68.8% red-zone scoring rate to LAR's 53.3%
15.4 PPBUF is at 68.8% red-zone scoring rate over 4 games; LAR is at 53.3% over 4 games. Those are this season's games through Oct 11. Last season BUF was at 66.2% over 17 games and LAR at 63.2% over 17 games.
LAR: 58.3% red-zone scoring allowed to BUF's 68.8%
10.4 PPBUF is at 68.8% red-zone scoring allowed over 4 games; LAR is at 58.3% over 4 games. Those are what each defense has allowed in this season's games through Oct 11.
MISMATCH
LAR: 290.3 pass yards a game to BUF's 247.3
290.3 VS 247.3The Rams throw for 290.3 yards a game and Buffalo for 247.3, over 4 games. The Rams were at 268.1 last season, so their passing game is running a bit hotter but on track. Buffalo has jumped from 216.6, a big rise over a short sample. Both teams can throw, and the Bills likely need to keep pace through the air rather than slow the Rams down.
COVERAGE
LAR: 145.5 passing yards allowed per game to BUF's 256.3
110.8 YPGThe Rams allow 145.5 passing yards a game, and Buffalo allows 256.3, both over 4 games. That is a short sample, and the sheet doesn't show which quarterbacks they saw or whether teams were running out the clock against them. If you look at passing numbers here, the Rams' receivers have the easier coverage to beat.
LAR: 4.13 yards per play allowed to BUF's 5.45
1.32 Y/PThe Rams allow 4.13 yards per play, and Buffalo allows 5.45, over 4 games each. Four games is a small sample, and the sheet doesn't show who either team faced. On a per-snap basis the Rams' defense has been much harder to move on, and Buffalo's has given up chunk yardage.
LAR: 33.3% third downs allowed to BUF's 40.7%
7.4 PPThe Rams have allowed opponents to convert a third of their third downs over four games, while Buffalo is at 40.7%. Four games is a small sample, and third-down rates bounce around a lot early, so both numbers can move toward the middle. Buffalo is the stronger offense test the Rams defense has to pass, and that matters more than the rate itself. Take the Rams edge as modest until it holds against an offense like this.
REPLACEMENT
DJ Moore (WR) is out for BUF
OUTDJ Moore is inactive for Monday's game at the Rams with a shoulder injury. Buffalo also lists receiver Joshua Palmer as out, so the Bills are down two wideouts tonight. The sheet does not say who absorbs their targets, so be careful with props on the receivers who remain.
Ar'maj Reed-Adams (G) is out for BUF
OUTBUF lists Ar'maj Reed-Adams as out on the injury report. Reported Oct 12.
Bill Murray (G) is out for LAR
OUTLAR lists Bill Murray as out on the injury report. Reported Oct 12.
Ed Oliver (DT) is out for BUF
OUTBUF lists Ed Oliver as out on the injury report. Reported Oct 12.
Larrell Murchison (DE) is out for LAR
OUTLAR lists Larrell Murchison as out on the injury report. Reported Oct 12.
Jude Bowry (OT) is out for BUF
OUTBUF lists Jude Bowry as out on the injury report. Reported Oct 12.
Max Klare (TE) is out for LAR
OUTLAR lists Max Klare as out on the injury report. Reported Oct 12.
CJ Daniels (WR) is out for LAR
OUTThe Rams list receiver CJ Daniels as out against the Bills. The sheet gives no injury, timeline or replacement, so the firm fact is that he does not play Monday.
Joshua Palmer (WR) is out for BUF
OUTBuffalo lists receiver Joshua Palmer as out at the Rams. DJ Moore is also inactive with a shoulder injury, so the Bills are missing two receivers tonight. The sheet does not say who picks up the snaps.
Landon Jackson (DE) is out for BUF
OUTJackson is inactive for Monday night against the Rams because of a knee injury. Buffalo will rotate other edge rushers into his snaps. The pass rush has one fewer body, and that is something to keep in mind for the Rams' passing game.
Dee Alford (CB) is out for BUF
OUTCornerback Dee Alford is inactive for Monday's game against the Rams with an ankle injury. Buffalo plays tonight one corner short, and the sheet does not name who takes his snaps.
Ty Simpson (QB) is out for LAR
OUTTy Simpson is inactive as a coach's decision. He is healthy and is the Rams' emergency third quarterback against the Bills on Monday. He would only enter if both quarterbacks ahead of him go down, so this barely touches how the game plays out.
Spencer Brown (OT) is questionable for BUF
QUESTIONABLEBrown (back) is questionable to return to Monday night's contest against the Rams. Reported Oct 13.
Terrance Ferguson (TE) is on injured reserve for LAR
IRFerguson (ankle) is expected to be ready to return after his four-game stint on injured reserve, Cameron DaSilva of USA Today reports. Reported Oct 7.
Myles Garrett (DE) is on injured reserve for LAR
IRGarrett (knee), per head coach Sean McVay, is "on track" in his recovery but is not expected to return to practice next week, Adam Grosbard of The Orange County Register reports. Reported Oct 10.

SITUATIONAL
BUF: 53.3% third-down conversion rate to LAR's 43.1%
10.2 PPBUF is at 53.3% third-down conversion rate over 4 games; LAR is at 43.1% over 4 games. Those are this season's games through Oct 11. Last season BUF was at 44.8% over 17 games and LAR at 39.6% over 17 games.

BUF (3-1) at LAR (2-2)
-18 PT GAPBuffalo is 3-1 at +20 and 1-0 on the road, coming off its first loss. The Rams are 2-2 at +2, a team that has basically broken even, and 1-1 at home. Four games is a short sample for both sides. Buffalo's margin gives it the edge on paper, though the samples are small enough that this one leans on more than the records.
BUF: 7.73 yards per pass attempt to LAR's 7
0.73 Y/ABUF is at 7.73 yards per pass attempt over 4 games; LAR is at 7 over 4 games. Those are this season's games through Oct 11. Last season BUF was at 6.88 over 17 games and LAR at 7.24 over 17 games.

2- GARY'S PICKMATTHEW STAFFORDPASSING ATTEMPTS UNDER 37.5
I'm taking Matthew Stafford under 37.5 pass attempts at -123.
Stafford's volume this year has followed the scoreboard. His two huge attempt totals came on the road while chasing. He threw 55 times in Denver after the Broncos outscored the Rams 30-10 in the second half, and 51 times in Philadelphia after trailing 20-10 at the half and needing two late touchdown drives. In the one home game where the Rams controlled the score, against the Giants, he threw 31 times. The opener against San Francisco shows 25, but he didn't play every snap that night, so I'm not leaning on it.
My side on this game is the Rams laying 3.5 at home. If that's right, Stafford spends the fourth quarter protecting a lead, and that's where attempt overs die. The Rams also have reasons to lean on the ground. Kyren Williams is averaging 5.4 yards a carry. Buffalo just lost DT Ed Oliver for tonight, which takes a disruptive interior player off a front that already gives up more than four yards a carry. Colby Parkinson is trending toward a return, and this staff leads the league in three tight end snaps when healthy, with almost five yards a carry out of that grouping. Nate Scheelhaase said the key is staying on schedule so Buffalo can't pin its ears back, and that starts with early down runs. Over ten games last season, Stafford averaged 35.5 attempts, below this number.
The strongest case against me is Buffalo's defense itself. Opponents have run a lot of plays against the Bills, 72 by New England and 73 by Houston, and they've dropped back around 40 times a game. If Josh Allen turns this into the 2024 shootout, or Buffalo jumps ahead, Stafford sails over. It's also a four game sample with an injury shortened opener inside it.
- GARY'S PICKKYREN WILLIAMSRECEPTIONS OVER 2.5
I'm taking Kyren Williams over 2.5 receptions at -174. He needs three catches.
The matchup points to the backfield. Buffalo's defense lives on its pass rush. Greg Rousseau leads the league with six sacks and 16 quarterback hits, and Jim Leonhard said this week his group is getting quick wins in the rush while the coverage lags behind. The Rams' answer to a front like that is getting the ball out fast, and Williams is the outlet. Buffalo has given up 21 catches for 162 yards and three receiving touchdowns to running backs in four games, so backs are finding space underneath. Cole Bishop is also lining up near the line far more than last year, which leaves linebackers and safeties chasing backs in space.
Williams has the role to cash it. He's drawn 25 of the Rams' 156 targets this season, he's caught everything thrown his way, and his snap share has climbed every week, to 70 of 84 snaps in Philadelphia. He's caught 3, 2, 6 and 10 balls, and the low game came in a 28-6 rout of the Giants where nobody needed to check down.
The contrary evidence is real, and it's why this isn't a bigger play. His 6 and 10 catch games came with Puka Nacua out in Denver and with Parkinson and Terrance Ferguson both missing in Philadelphia. In the first two weeks, with a fuller group, he caught 3 and 2. Parkinson is trending back, and Nacua is healthy. Last season, he averaged under two catches a game across nine games. At -174, I'm paying for a role that might shrink some, but I think Buffalo's pressure keeps him busy.
