The read
How the two cases hold up. The Philadelphia case is mostly a list of Jacksonville's problems: the defense lives on takeaways and red-zone stops, the offense makes no big plays, the penalties, Little's long kicks, the London letdown spot. It does name some things Philly does on the field. Fangio limits explosive plays, Baun and Mitchell are back, Goedert returns, and the punt team and Covey's returns can win field position. What it never shows is how this offense scores 14-plus points against this defense. Its offensive plan is Goedert and Hurts scrambling, behind a center from the practice squad who hasn't played a snap this season, a left guard with 3% of snaps and a rookie right tackle in his second start. To cover, Philly needs Jacksonville to beat itself.
The Jacksonville case leans heavily on Philly's injury list too, but it pairs nearly every Philly weakness with something Jacksonville does. Hurts is at -0.34 EPA per dropback against the blitz, a career low, and went 1-for-7 for 5 yards when the Rams blitzed every third down. Campanile calls blitz zones, and his linebackers and safeties have the most charted blitzes on the team (Oluokun 6, Johnson 6, Miller 5). Now those blitzes come at a center who has had about four days of first-team reps, and Hines-Allen and Walker get the rookie tackle. The No. 2 run defense (74.3 yards a game) faces Shipley at 3.4 yards a carry with no Barkley or Bigsby, which pushes Philly into the third-and-longs where it went 0-for-12. The takeaways (+6, an interception in nine straight games, 38 points off turnovers) hand the offense short fields. That answers the 'no big plays' complaint, because Jacksonville doesn't need 75-yard drives when it starts at midfield. Lawrence is at 69% and 8.1 yards per attempt, and he gets the ball out in 2.56 seconds against a pass rush with 4 sacks that its own coordinator calls inconsistent, likely without Greenard and with Carter in a cast. Coen's passing game hits the middle of the field more than anyone, and Philly's safety group has Epps out and Kenny Moore still learning the position.
The bet. This number comes down to Philly's offense. It had 172 yards against the Rams with more of its line intact than it has today, and it has been shut out 0-31 after halftime the last two weeks. Jacksonville has allowed 3 or fewer first-half points in every game and 20 or fewer total in 10 straight. My projection is Philly at 10 to 13 points, which means Jacksonville needs about 20 to 21. The Jags have scored 34, 13, 35 and 22. Philly's late-game pattern is collapse, not backdoor covers: its defense gave up 98- and 79-yard touchdown drives at the end against the Rams and is thin behind the starters. I trust Jacksonville to do what this bet needs: protect the ball, get a takeaway, and finish red-zone trips at its 82% touchdown rate.
The risks are real, which is why my confidence is modest. Jacksonville has let teams back in during the second half (outscored 3-17 at Denver, 9-14 at Cincinnati), penalties killed drives last week, Little is 2-of-4 from 50-plus, and -114 means I need to cover about 53% of the time to break even. Goedert's return and Philly's special-teams edge could keep this to one score. I'm passing on Philly at +315 because I don't think they win this game nearly a quarter of the time.

QUARTERBACK
Jalen Hurts is the projected starting quarterback for PHI
6.25 Y/AThrough 4 games in 2026, Jalen Hurts threw for 713 passing yards, completed 59.6% of his passes and averaged 6.25 yards per attempt. Last season over 16 games he threw for 3224 yards, completed 64.8% and averaged 7.1 yards per attempt, 25-6 touchdowns to interceptions. This season's 7-3 touchdown-to-interception line is 4 games in.
Trevor Lawrence is the projected starting quarterback for JAX
8.11 Y/AThrough 4 games in 2026, Trevor Lawrence threw for 843 passing yards, completed 69.2% of his passes and averaged 8.11 yards per attempt. Last season over 17 games he threw for 4007 yards, completed 60.9% and averaged 7.16 yards per attempt, 29-12 touchdowns to interceptions. This season's 8-2 touchdown-to-interception line is 4 games in.
TRENCHES
JAX: 74.3 rushing yards allowed per game to PHI's 122
47.8 YPGPHI is at 122 rushing yards allowed per game over 4 games; JAX is at 74.3 over 4 games. Those are what each defense has allowed in this season's games through Oct 10.
PASS RUSH
JAX: 2.5 sacks recorded per game to PHI's 1
1.5 SACKSJacksonville is getting the quarterback down 2.5 times a game, while Philadelphia's pass rush has managed 1. Four games is a small sample, and the sheet does not show which offensive lines those sacks came against, so part of the gap could be schedule. Sack rates swing a lot week to week, so expect both numbers to move. For this game, a Jacksonville rush that is getting home makes long third downs and stalled Eagles drives more likely.
PACE & SCRIPT
JAX: 13.3 points allowed per game to PHI's 23.3
10 PPGPHI is at 23.3 points allowed per game over 4 games; JAX is at 13.3 over 4 games. Those are this season's games through Oct 10. Last season PHI was at 19.1 over 17 games and JAX at 19.8 over 17 games.
JAX: 26 points per game to PHI's 18.8
7.3 PPGPHI is at 18.8 points per game over 4 games; JAX is at 26 over 4 games. Those are this season's games through Oct 10. Last season PHI was at 22.3 over 17 games and JAX at 27.9 over 17 games.
JAX: 30:53 time of possession per game to PHI's 28:33
2:20 TOPPHI is at 28:33 time of possession per game over 4 games; JAX is at 30:53 over 4 games. Those are this season's games through Oct 10. Last season PHI was at 30:11 over 17 games and JAX at 31:56 over 17 games.
TURNOVERS
JAX: 2 takeaways per game to PHI's 0.5
1.5 TOJacksonville has forced 2 turnovers a game over four games, and Philadelphia has managed just 0.5. Takeaways swing more than almost any defensive stat, so four games of fumble luck and tipped balls can inflate or sink these numbers fast. Expect both to drift toward the middle. Jacksonville's edge at home is real enough to factor in, but it is a weaker foundation for a bet than yardage or third-down numbers.
EXPLOSIVE PLAYS
JAX: 5.63 yards per play to PHI's 4.75
0.88 Y/PJacksonville gains 5.63 yards a play, up from 5.27 last season, and had 5 plays of 20 or more yards last game, including a 25-yard touchdown run by Chris Rodriguez Jr. Philadelphia has fallen to 4.75 from 5.27 and had no play of 20 or more yards last game. Both teams were at the same level last season, so expect this 4-game gap to close some. Philadelphia's lack of big plays means long drives are its main path to points.
RED ZONE
JAX: 28.6% red-zone scoring allowed to PHI's 58.8%
30.3 PPJacksonville allows touchdowns on 28.6% of red-zone trips over four games, while Philadelphia allows 58.8%. Red-zone rates swing on just a handful of possessions, so Jacksonville's stinginess is likely to loosen. Philadelphia's number looks more like how teams finish against it. For totals in Jacksonville, expect the Jaguars' edge near the goal line to shrink as the sample grows.
MISMATCH
JAX: 13.3 points allowed a game to PHI's 23.3
13.3 VS 23.3Jacksonville is allowing 13.3 points a game, Philadelphia 23.3, over 4 games. A year ago the two were close, with Philadelphia at 19.1 and Jacksonville at 19.8, so both have moved sharply in opposite directions. Jacksonville's number is the more likely to rise. Philadelphia needs to finish drives against a defense that has been stingy early, and a bettor should weigh how much of that 13.3 is four games of schedule.
COVERAGE
PHI: 222 passing yards allowed per game to JAX's 280.3
58.3 YPGPHI is at 222 passing yards allowed per game over 4 games; JAX is at 280.3 over 4 games. Those are what each defense has allowed in this season's games through Oct 10.
PHI: 5.23 yards per play allowed to JAX's 5.92
0.7 Y/PPHI is at 5.23 yards per play allowed over 4 games; JAX is at 5.92 over 4 games. Those are what each defense has allowed in this season's games through Oct 10.
JAX: 32.6% third downs allowed to PHI's 40.4%
7.8 PPPHI is at 40.4% third downs allowed over 4 games; JAX is at 32.6% over 4 games. Those are what each defense has allowed in this season's games through Oct 10.
REPLACEMENT
Jalyx Hunt (LB) is questionable for PHI
QUESTIONABLEHunt was seen in a walking boot on his left leg after the Eagles' 19-17 loss to the Jaguars, dealing with ankle and knee issues. Questionable means his status is undecided, and a boot right after the game is not an encouraging sign. Watch the Eagles' practice reports this week before counting on him in the Philadelphia linebacker group.
Tank Bigsby (RB) is on injured reserve for PHI
IRPhiladelphia placed Bigsby on injured reserve Tuesday with an abdomen injury, which keeps him out for at least several weeks. He is a running back, so his carries get spread among the backs still on the roster for the trip to Jacksonville. The fact sheet does not say who absorbs that work, so watch the Eagles' depth chart and any practice reports before leaning on a backup's rushing number.
Caleb Ransaw (S) is on injured reserve for JAX
IRJacksonville put Ransaw on injured reserve Tuesday with a knee injury, so he misses this game against Philadelphia and at least the next few after it. He is a safety, which means the Jaguars play with a thinner back line against the Eagles' passing game. No replacement is named here, so see who starts at safety and weigh that when looking at deep-ball or receiver yardage lines.

SITUATIONAL
PHI (2-2) at JAX (3-1)
+69 PT GAPJacksonville is 3-1 at +51 and 2-0 at home, on a 2-game win streak, so the record and the scoring agree. Philadelphia is 2-2, -18, and has lost 2 straight while going 1-1 on the road. The Jaguars come in with both form and margin behind them. The Eagles' name carries more weight than their current numbers, which is the thing to weigh when the price comes out.
PHI: 48.3 penalty yards per game to JAX's 61.5
13.3 YDSPHI is at 48.3 penalty yards per game over 4 games; JAX is at 61.5 over 4 games. Those are this season's games through Oct 10. Last season PHI was at 63.1 over 17 games and JAX at 63.5 over 17 games.

2- GARY'S PICKWILL SHIPLEYRECEIVING YARDS UNDER 14.5
Will Shipley under 14.5 receiving yards at -107.
Shipley gets the start this week with Barkley out and Bigsby on injured reserve, and the Eagles' own preview says he should carry the heavier workload. That new role is about carries. This offense has barely used its backs as receivers all season. Barkley, Bigsby and Shipley have combined for 17 targets and 42 receiving yards in four games. Shipley's own lines are 8, 5, 11 and 0 yards, and across six games last year his best was 17. The targets in this system go to Wicks, Lemon, Cooper and the tight ends.
The matchup pushes his routes down further. Campanile calls blitz zones, and his linebackers and safeties lead the team in charted blitzes: Oluokun, Antonio Johnson and Ventrell Miller. Philly is starting a practice squad center with about four days of first team work, a left guard who has played a handful of snaps and a rookie right tackle in his second start. When the Rams blitzed every third down last week, Hurts went 1 for 7. Against that pressure, the lead back is far more likely to stay in and pick up a blitzer than to release into a route. Shipley is also the one back on the roster who knows the protections, with Pierce and Steele just arriving.
The strongest case against this is Jacksonville's record against backs. Opposing backs have 27 catches for 193 yards in four games, and Chase Brown nearly converted Cincinnati's last fourth down on a short throw. If Philly falls behind and Hurts has to dump the ball off against the blitz, one screen could clear this number. His role is genuinely bigger than last year's, and four games is a thin sample. I still trust how this offense has played to trump that.
- GARY'S PICKJALEN HURTSRUSHING YARDS UNDER 25.5
Jalen Hurts under 25.5 rushing yards at -113.
Jacksonville has kept quarterbacks in the pocket all year. Through four games, including Drake Maye's Patriots, opposing quarterbacks have run for 70 yards combined. The Jaguars allow 74.3 rushing yards a game, second best in the league. Walker and Hines-Allen set hard edges, and Campanile's umbrella zones keep defenders facing the quarterback, which shuts the scramble lanes Hurts usually finds. His last three games went for 18, 25 and 16 yards. Only the opener against Washington cleared this number.
The Philly line makes escaping harder. A pocket built around a practice squad center and a rookie right tackle collapses fast, and Jacksonville sends its linebackers and safeties through the interior. Last week those breakdowns turned into four sacks rather than runs, two of them by Byron Young on the final drive. Sacks count against his passing, not his rushing, so every collapsed pocket that ends on the ground costs this over nothing. His short yardage work is sneaks and keepers near the goal line, and those gain a yard or two at a time.
The strongest argument against me is the backfield. With Barkley and Bigsby both gone and Shipley at 3.4 yards a carry, Mannion may call more designed runs for Hurts. Coen spent Friday talking about how Hurts tests rush integrity. If Philly trails all day, there is no kneel down at the end to eat into his total. One broken scramble of 20 yards would nearly settle this alone, and four games is a small sample against his longer history as a runner. I am taking the defense that has contained everyone so far.
