The read
Two nights after Toronto beat Orlando 129-99 at Scotiabank Arena, the same two teams meet in the same building with the same injury list. This one counts in the NBA Cup group standings, and the line has come all the way down to 5.5.
Wednesday's margin was inflated, but not by as much as you'd think. Toronto hit 15 of 35 threes. In its other three games it shot 27 of 103, about 26%. Orlando shot 32% from three outside that game. Give both teams their usual shooting and Toronto still wins by about 9. The rest of the edge came from extra shots: Toronto took 88 field goal attempts to Orlando's 80.
Those extra shots come from turnovers, and that's the core of this pick. Toronto has forced 20 or more turnovers in all four games. Orlando has turned it over 16 or more times in every game. With Paolo Banchero and Jalen Suggs out, Franz Wagner has to run the offense. He has 19 turnovers in four games, seven of them on Wednesday.
The season numbers agree. Based on possessions, Toronto is scoring about 112 per 100 and allowing about 98. Orlando is scoring about 104 and allowing about 116. Toronto has won its two home games by 43 and 30. Rajaković credits Jakob Poeltl for what he calls the league's top defense. Poeltl played only 10 minutes Wednesday because of foul trouble, and Toronto still won by 30. Point differential is also a Cup tiebreaker, so a team with a big lead has a reason to keep pushing.
The Magic have a real case. They've had two days of film and want revenge, and Toronto's shooting should cool off. Desmond Bane is 16 of 53 from the field, and a shooter that cold can still break out any night. Orlando hit 18 threes to win at New York. Scottie Barnes went 0 for 12 at Minnesota. And it's only four games for each team.
Still, take out the lucky shooting and Toronto was clearly the better team, and Orlando's thin guard group hasn't handled the Raptors' pressure. I'm laying the 5.5.

HEAD-TO-HEAD
TOR won last season's series 2-1
2-1Toronto took two of three meetings last season and won by 14.3 a game. That margin comes from just three games last year, and tonight is the first meeting this season. Both teams come in on equal rest, so there is no schedule angle to add to it.

Props on this game
2- GARY'S PICKTRISTAN DA SILVAPOINTS OVER 11.5
Orlando is without Banchero and Suggs, two of its biggest shot creators, and Da Silva has become the second unit's first option. The last two games show it: 27 minutes in New York and 31 in Toronto, with 19 and 20 points on aggressive, efficient volume. Sweeney keeps reshuffling the starting group, yet Da Silva's bench role has stayed steady, and the minutes hold whether the game stays close or gets away.
Toronto's pressure breaks up Orlando's half court sets. That sends the ball to whoever can catch and shoot without putting it on the floor, which is exactly Da Silva's game. Even on a cooler night from three, twelve points only takes a handful of makes in close to 30 minutes.
At this short a number with this workload, I'm on the over.
- GARY'S PICKWENDELL CARTER JR.REBOUNDS OVER 7.5
Carter is the big Orlando trusts every night, and the rebounds have followed. Carter has pulled double digit boards in both games since Banchero went down, including 10 in only 26 minutes during Wednesday's blowout in this building. With Banchero's size gone from the four spot, more of the defensive rebounding falls to Carter.
Vucevic and Bitadze have played only spot minutes in reserve. Toronto plays fast and misses a lot of shots, as it did on long nights from the field against Washington and Minnesota, so plenty of defensive rebounds will be there to grab. Poeltl's minutes are unsettled after Wednesday's foul trouble, and Rajaković says everything is on the table at center, so Carter may not face a true box out big for the full night.
Sweeney wants more physicality in the rematch, and for this group that starts on the glass. I'll lay the price on the over.
