The read
Toronto rolls into Capital One Arena on Friday night after a 135-92 demolition of Chicago, and the market has spent two days chasing that result. The Raptors were -4.5 Thursday morning and sit at -8.5 now. A four-point move is what you usually see when a star gets ruled out, but nobody was. Washington's starting five of Young, George, Coulibaly, Davis and Sarr is the same group that beat Milwaukee. Dybantsa, Vukcevic and Watkins were already sidelined for that win. What moved this number is mostly one blowout.
That blowout leaned on things that swing. Toronto's defense was real: 15 steals, 27 forced turnovers, 34 fast-break points. But Chicago shot 4-of-36 from three, the lead reached 46, and 14 Raptors got minutes. Toronto itself went 10-of-31 from deep, and Kawhi Leonard shot 5-of-17. This is a good team, but the margin says little about tonight.
The matchup also cuts against how the Raptors won. Their edge was taking the ball away, and Washington just played a clean game with it: 11 turnovers, 28 assists, and Trae Young with 13 assists against one turnover. If the Wizards protect the ball, Toronto's transition game shrinks. Washington's offense doesn't need the long ball either. The Wizards scored 70 points in the paint and went 32-of-41 at the line, with Anthony Davis scoring 34 inside, on a night they made only 6 of 28 threes.
Then there's Leonard's workload. His opener target was 23-24 minutes, and nothing confirmed changes that tonight. If he plays around half the game again, much of this one belongs to Toronto's bench, and at 8.5 that matters.
The schedule is a wash, with both teams on one day of rest. The high total widens the range of outcomes for both sides equally.
The risk: the final two-point jump came early Friday morning with no news attached, and Davis won't score 34 every night. That keeps this a lean. Still, I'd rather take the points the market just added than lay them. Washington +8.5.

2- GARY'S PICKKAWHI LEONARDPOINTS UNDER 24.5
This number is priced for the Kawhi Leonard of last season, who played over 32 minutes a night. The Kawhi in Toronto opened with a stated target of 23 to 24 minutes, played exactly 24, and nothing announced since says that ceiling moves tonight. Twenty-five points in that window asks for a scoring rate he only reaches on his best nights.
His 23 against Chicago also looks better than the game he played. He shot 5 of 17 from the floor and got the rest by going 11 of 11 at the line. Take away a perfect free-throw night and that's a high-teens game. Tonight he draws Bilal Coulibaly, who just had four steals and two blocks against Milwaukee, with Alex Sarr and Anthony Davis behind him at the rim. That's a lot of length for a player still learning a new playbook, which he said himself after the opener.
The usage around him matters too. Quickley, Barnes and Barrett each scored 20 or more in the opener, so Toronto's offense doesn't need Kawhi to carry it. When the ball moves that evenly, his shot volume stays modest.
What beats it: the minutes. Kawhi asked for extra fourth-quarter run in a 46-point game, and if this one stays tight late, Rajakovic may let him close and push him toward 30 minutes. Another perfect night at the line gets him there too. I'm betting the cap holds in a road game this early in the season. Under 24.5.
- GARY'S PICKANTHONY DAVISPOINTS REBOUNDS ASSISTS OVER 36.5
Washington's offense runs through Anthony Davis on the block, and Toronto's best defense mostly happens on the perimeter. The Raptors won the opener with steals and transition, 15 takeaways and 34 fast-break points. Davis is the outlet for that pressure. When Toronto overplays Trae Young and the wings, the ball ends up inside, and the Wizards just scored 70 points in the paint and took 41 free throws with him as the focus.
The workload is there. He played almost 34 minutes in the opener with no restriction, and when he's healthy he sits in the mid-30s on minutes. That puts this line right around a normal Davis night. His 50 against Milwaukee came from 34 points, 12 rebounds and 4 assists, and he doesn't need anything close to that. A low-20s scoring night with his usual work on the glass clears it.
The board helps the rebounds. Toronto's frontcourt is Jakob Poeltl and a rotation of young forwards in Murray-Boyles and Graves. That group defends with effort, but it doesn't match Davis's size and reach, and Chicago's 4 of 36 from three in the opener shows how many long misses this Toronto defense allows. Those rebounds end up in Davis's hands.
What beats it: the rebounds getting split up. Sarr grabbed 9 boards in the opener and Ayton took a share in his minutes, so the glass is crowded in Washington's frontcourt. A Toronto run that turns this into a blowout would cut his fourth quarter, and Davis has one of those early exits in his recent games. I expect a competitive game with Davis on the floor late. Over 36.5.
