New York Knicks at Milwaukee Bucks

The sportsbooks are hanging an 8.5-point spread on a Friday night in Milwaukee, assuming the third-seeded Knicks will easily handle an eleventh-seeded Bucks team missing their superstar. But anyone blindly laying that many points with a road favorite is ignoring what this Milwaukee roster has actually been doing over the last couple of weeks.

Since the middle of February, the Bucks have completely transformed their identity. They have ripped off eight wins in their last ten games, surging to a plus 4.4 net rating over their last five outings while bumping their offensive rating up to a massive 118.8. This is no longer a team relying on interior dominance. They have pivoted to a guard-heavy, perimeter attack fueled by the addition of Cam Thomas and the breakout of Ryan Rollins. Rollins is pouring in over 20 points and three triples a game over his last five, and the Bucks are 5-2 since Thomas joined the rotation. They just knocked off Cleveland and blew out a 45-win Thunder squad by 17 points, proving they can absolutely hang with elite competition right now.

On the other side, New York is an excellent team, but they are vulnerable in this specific spot. They are a completely average 14-14 on the road this season. Jalen Brunson has seen his scoring dip from nearly 27 points a game on the year to a flat 20 over his last five, and their offense just stalled out completely in an ugly 94-point showing against the Cavaliers. Furthermore, the Knicks have been a bottom-10 unit defending the three-point line recently. That is a massive red flag against a Milwaukee team that ranks second in the league in three-point percentage and relies on guys like A.J. Green and Rollins spacing the floor at a high clip.

The Knicks certainly have a massive rebounding advantage with Karl-Anthony Towns and Mitchell Robinson dominating the glass, and they are the better team in a vacuum. But you simply cannot spot an 8.5-point head start to a hot shooting team playing on its home floor with two days of rest. The Bucks are playing desperate, highly efficient basketball to keep their play-in hopes alive. Getting this many points with a team that has won eight of ten is too much value to pass up.
