Gary's Take Portland’s profile looks like a below-average team, but Sacramento is playing like one of the worst groups in the conference right now. The Trail Blazers own the edge on both sides of the ball and play just as fast, which matters in a matchup where possessions will pile up. The Kings come in on a bad skid and, more importantly, are missing Domantas Sabonis, which strips away a key frontcourt presence and facilitator from an offense that already lagged behind Portland’s in efficiency.

Offensively, Deni Avdija and Jerami Grant give Portland a one-two scoring punch that Sacramento doesn’t really match without Sabonis. Avdija is carrying a big load as a scorer, rebounder, and playmaker on the wing, while Grant adds steady 20-a-night scoring with real perimeter gravity. That kind of shot creation has driven Portland’s stronger offensive rating and slightly better shooting profile. Sacramento has to lean heavily on DeMar DeRozan in the midrange and Dennis Schroder and Malik Monk on the perimeter; they are capable — with DeRozan around 18 points per game and Schroder nearly six assists — but this group was less efficient even when healthier.

The physical areas tilt this further toward Portland. The Blazers have been the better offensive rebounding team, and with Sabonis and Drew Eubanks both out, the Kings are thin up front. That sets up extra second-chance looks for Avdija, Grant, and Kris Murray in what should be a track meet given both teams’ pace. Sacramento’s clutch record is impressive and shows they can punch above their overall numbers in tight games, but the larger net rating gap and nightly scoring margins tell you Portland is far less likely to get blown off the floor.

Yes, Portland is also down Jrue Holiday and Scoot Henderson, so they’re lighter on ball-handling and on-ball defense than usual, and that’s the main concern with laying points on the road. But between their efficiency edge, stronger work on the glass, and a Kings team that has been getting outclassed over 48 minutes and is now missing its best big, I expect the Blazers to create separation rather than play another coin-flip finish. I’m backing the Portland Trail Blazers -4.5 to cover on the road, and the only way this misses is if Sacramento’s guards catch fire and somehow win the rebounding battle despite their frontcourt injuries — but I’m still riding with Portland Trail Blazers -4.5.
