Gary's Take Denver’s offense has been humming, and at home they’ve already shown they can edge this Houston group in a shootout, as that 128-125 win last week illustrated. You’ve got Nikola Jokic orchestrating everything from the elbows and the post, Jamal Murray punishing mismatches on the perimeter, and a system that consistently produces clean looks. Houston brings a tough, physical identity, but this specific matchup tilts toward efficient shot-making and execution, which is Denver’s wheelhouse.
From a profile standpoint, Denver owns the edge in overall efficiency and shooting. Their offense grades better, driven by elite effective field goal percentage and a much cleaner turnover profile. That combination matters against a Rockets defense that is good, but not so overwhelming that it can erase a big gap in shot quality and ball security. Houston’s best counters are clear: Alperen Sengun and that front line hammering the offensive glass and living at the free-throw line. They win with extra possessions and foul pressure, not with perimeter volume.
The loss of Aaron Gordon and Christian Braun does hurt Denver’s defense and versatility on the wing, but it hasn’t derailed their level; they’ve kept winning and scoring efficiently without them. Jokic, Murray, and the remaining core are still more than capable of exploiting Houston’s half-court defense, especially in altitude where Denver historically controls tempo. If Denver limits second-chance opportunities and avoids putting the Rockets in the bonus early, their superior offensive engine should separate over 48 minutes, even if the game is tight into the fourth.
Houston’s been statistically a bit “unlucky” and their rebounding and free-throw edge are real concerns, but asking them to win outright as a slight road favorite in Denver is a big task. I’ll side with the more efficient home offense that’s already proven it can survive Houston’s physicality in this building. That’s why I’m backing Denver Nuggets ML -102 tonight.
Only way this really goes sideways is if Houston completely overwhelms Denver on the offensive glass and at the stripe, turning a more efficient Nuggets shooting night into a loss on sheer volume of possessions.

THE EDGE
Line 9.5 ast | Season Avg: 10.9 APG (+1.4 cushion) | Recent Form: L5 avg 10.0 (3/5 over line)
WHY IT HITS
Jokic is the offensive hub for Denver, averaging nearly 11 assists on the season with a strong L10 average of 11.2, giving meaningful cushion on a 9.5 line. His role and minutes are extremely stable (35+ MPG, primary facilitator with no ball-dominant PG beside him), and the market is already leaning higher with some books hanging 10.5 and juicing the 9.5 over.
THE RISK
If Denver leans more on his scoring against Houston's interior defense or shooters go cold from three, Jokic could finish in the 7–9 assist range despite high usage. Blowout risk also exists if Denver runs away with it early, trimming his fourth-quarter minutes.

THE EDGE
Line 7.5 pts | Season Avg: 6.7 PPG (-0.8 cushion vs line) | Recent Form: L5 avg 6.8 (3/5 under line)
WHY IT HITS
Brown's scoring profile supports the under, with both his season (6.7 PPG) and L10 average (7.1 PPG) sitting below this 7.5 line, and only 2 of his last 5 games clearing it amid modest usage. His role is more connective than featured, and the market is shading the same way with juice to the under and lower alt lines indicating expectation for low-to-mid single digits.
THE RISK
His low consistency (0.36) means he can spike into double digits if his minutes climb or he gets hot from three in a fast-paced game, especially if foul trouble or injuries to teammates force extra run.
