Gary's Take Boston’s depth gets tested again without Jayson Tatum, but the spot sets up really cleanly for them: four days of rest, at home, against a Miami group that just played last night and has struggled away from South Beach. This is a clash of styles too – Boston comfortable in a slower, half-court game, Miami wanting to get out and run – and in your own building, with fresh legs, the home team usually dictates tempo.

Even without Tatum, Jaylen Brown and Derrick White give Boston a serious 1–2 punch. Brown is playing like a true number one option, averaging nearly 30 points with good size on the wing, and Derrick White’s blend of playmaking and scoring keeps the offense organized. The underlying profile still favors Boston: they’re more careful with the ball, turning it over less often than almost anyone, and they crash the offensive glass far better than Miami. That combination – low turnovers and strong offensive rebounding – means extra possessions, which is exactly how you stretch a margin at home.

Miami’s strengths are real. Bam Adebayo anchors a defense that has graded out better than Boston’s on the season, and the Heat shoot it more efficiently overall, especially from three with Andrew Wiggins spacing and Jaime Jaquez Jr. providing secondary scoring. They get to the line more often too. In a vacuum, that shooting-and-defense combo would make taking a full touchdown with Miami appealing. But this isn’t a neutral spot: they’re 5-8 on the road, come in 1-4 over their last five, and their uptempo style is a tough ask on tired legs in a building where Boston has been solid.

I see Brown attacking mismatches, White controlling pace, and Boston’s size and energy on the boards wearing Miami down as the game moves into the second half. The Heat will have stretches where Bam and Wiggins keep it interesting, but the cumulative effect of Boston’s extra possessions and fresher legs should turn this into a comfortable home win rather than a coin-flip late.

That’s why I’m laying the points and backing Boston Celtics -7 -110 at home. The only way Boston -7 really gets in trouble is if Miami overcomes the fatigue, stays red-hot from deep, and lives at the free-throw line enough to erase Boston’s edge on the glass and in turnovers.
