Gary's Take I love this spot for Golden State because the efficiency gap is real. The Warriors bring a positive net rating on the season (+2.9) against a Blazers group sitting in the negatives (-2.6), and most of that edge is on the defensive end (Golden State’s defensive rating 110.6 vs Portland’s 115.9). With Jrue Holiday and Matisse Thybulle both sidelined (Holiday at 115.5 offensive rating, 113.1 defensive; Thybulle at 88.7 defensive rating), Portland loses its two best perimeter stoppers and a key creator.

Here’s how I see this playing out: Deni Avdija and Jerami Grant will have to shoulder huge scoring loads (Avdija 25.4 PPG, Grant 19.3 PPG), but Golden State can throw Jimmy Butler and Draymond Green at them (Butler 19.3 PPG on 44.4% from three, Green contributing across the board at 8.0/6.1/5.5). In a fast-paced game (Portland at 105.0 pace, Golden State 102.5), the Warriors’ combination of three-point volume and accuracy (10.6 made threes at 35.9% vs Portland’s 8.0 at 34.2%) plus their defensive advantage should show up over 48 minutes.

Portland’s best path to hang around is living on the glass and the stripe (28.0% offensive rebound rate and 22.9 free throw attempts per game), but with their perimeter defense gutted and Golden State owning clear edges in defense and net rating, I expect the Warriors to create separation in the second half. Only way this misses is if the Blazers win the free-throw and offensive rebounding battle by a huge margin and Avdija stays nuclear from deep all night. Lock this in: Golden State Warriors -4 -110.
