Gary's Take I love this spot for Portland because the efficiency gap is just too big to ignore. New Orleans is already sitting on a weak offensive rating and ugly net rating, and now they’re without Jordan Poole and Zion Williamson, taking a big chunk of their scoring and creation off the floor (Poole’s 17.3 PPG and Zion’s 22.1 PPG are gone). Even at home they’ve been awful (2-12 in this building), and their effective field goal percentage lags badly.

Portland, on the other hand, has a clear edge in offensive rating and shooting efficiency, plus they live at the line more with a much higher free-throw rate and more attempts per game. Deni Avdija filling it up across the board (25.8 points, 7.2 rebounds, 6.3 assists) and Jerami Grant scoring efficiently on the wing (19.5 PPG, 39.4% from three) give them reliable half-court options that New Orleans just doesn’t have right now. Even if the Blazers cough it up a bit more (10.8 turnovers per game vs 7.4 for New Orleans), their stronger offense, better recent net rating, and ability to generate free points at the stripe should create separation over 48 minutes.

The only way this misses is if Portland’s turnover issues spiral and New Orleans has an outlier night from deep, but the underlying numbers and injury situation point squarely to the Blazers covering. Lock it in: Portland Trail Blazers -4.5 -112.
