The read
Tropicana Field hosts a League Championship Series game for the first time in nearly twenty years. Kevin Cash hands Game 1 to his ace, and a Cleveland club that just survived three straight elimination games walks in with one day off. The game starts on the mound, and the gap there is wide. Drew Rasmussen has a 1.55 ERA over his last 12 starts. His last outing was 8 innings of one-hit ball with 10 strikeouts against the Yankees. Cleveland will send eight left-side bats at him, but his weaker side still holds hitters to a .568 OPS. The two Guardians on their weak side tonight, Ramírez and Adell, bat second and fourth.
Foster Griffin's profile is the problem against this lineup. He has given up 34 hits in 23.1 innings over his last five starts, so he lives on stranding runners, and tonight he faces the team that struck out less than anyone in the majors. His main pitch, the cutter, has allowed a .349 xwOBA. Junior Caminero has a .916 OPS against lefties and a .423 xwOBA against cutters. Griffin reached six innings in only 3 of 9 Cleveland starts, so Stephen Vogt likely needs a lot of relief outs with Game 2 tomorrow. Cade Smith and Hunter Gaddis pitched in all five ALDS games, and Smith threw 82 pitches over his last seven days. Gaddis allows a .301/.373/.496 line to left-handed hitters, and the Rays have Hicks, Palacios and Simpson on the bench to throw at him. Every Tampa Bay reliever has had at least four full days off. Booser holds lefties to .123/.157/.231, and the closer behind him, Baker, has a 1.44 ERA.
The case against me is real. Griffin's 3.54 FIP with Cleveland says his 5.19 ERA there overstates the damage, and he hasn't allowed a home run in his last six starts. The bottom four of the Rays order post .541 to .675 OPS marks against lefties, and the team ranked 25th against southpaws this season. In a pitcher-friendly dome, a quiet night keeps any underdog alive. But Cleveland hit .213 as a team in the ALDS. I won't bet that lineup to solve the best pitcher on the field while its own top relievers carry that workload. The Rays went 55-26 at home, and they have their ace on extra rest. I'll lay the price.
The research
The dated measurements the app shows under this card — observations with their sample and source, not predictions.
STARTER FORM
Foster Griffin: 8.03 ERA over his last 3 starts
8.03Griffin has allowed 11 earned runs on 22 hits in 12.1 innings over his last 3 starts, so hitters are squaring him up and he is leaving early. His season ERA is 3.60, and three starts is a short window, so his real level is probably closer to that. The question for a bettor is whether the market has overreacted to the bad run or whether Tampa Bay keeps hitting him.
Drew Rasmussen: 0.46 ERA over his last 3 starts
0.46Rasmussen has a 0.46 ERA, a 0.66 WHIP and 24 strikeouts in 19.2 innings over his last 3 starts, so almost nobody is reaching base. He was already sharp before this, with a 2.67 ERA and 0.91 WHIP on the season. The 0.46 will not last, but this is a hot stretch from a good pitcher, so his season numbers are a fair floor for what Cleveland faces.
HEAT CHECK
Brayan Rocchio: 1.068 OPS in Last 15 Days
1.068Rocchio has a 1.068 OPS over the last 15 days, but it comes in just 34 at-bats and sits far above his .705 season mark. A jump that size on that few at-bats usually comes back toward the baseline, though his 15 home runs give the pop some backing. His total-bases line is 0.5, so the over needs one hit and the hot run matters less than whether he simply gets one.
Jonny DeLuca: .857 OPS in Last 15 Days
.857DeLuca has an .857 OPS over the last 15 days in 42 at-bats, a modest step up from his .728 season mark. That is a good stretch more than a different hitter, and a gap that size is easier to keep than a huge spike. His total-bases line is 1.5, which needs an extra-base hit or two singles, so his season profile with 11 home runs is the better guide.
COOLING OFF
Yandy Diaz: .450 OPS in Last 15 Days
.450Diaz has a .450 OPS over the last 15 days, so he has barely been reaching base or hitting for power. That is 40 at-bats against an .805 season mark, a short cold patch for a hitter with his track record. Expect him to drift back toward his normal level, and give the full-season number more weight when looking at his props.
Ryan Vilade: .411 OPS in Last 15 Days
.411Vilade has a .411 OPS over the last 15 days, so very little has turned into hits. That is only 30 at-bats against a .750 season mark, a small enough slice that it says more about recent timing than about who he is. Use the .750 as his baseline tonight.
HEAD-TO-HEAD
Rays are 5-1 vs Guardians this season
5-1Tampa Bay has taken five of six from Cleveland this season, and the most recent one was a 1-0 game that could have gone either way. Six games is a small sample, and the sheet offers no pitchers or scores to explain the edge. Tonight's starters and the Rays being at home should carry more weight than the 5-1.
TEAM RECORD
Rays 8-0 in Drew Rasmussen's last 8 starts
8-0Every time Rasmussen has pitched across his last eight starts, Tampa Bay has walked off with the win. The sheet does not split that between his arm, the bats behind him and who they played, and eight games is a short run that rarely stays spotless. Against Cleveland tonight, the streak is a reason to look at the Rays, with the understanding that the price has probably caught up to it.
REGRESSION
Tampa Bay Rays are 25-14 in one-run games (.641 win rate)
25-14Tampa Bay Rays are 25-14 in one-run games in the 2026 regular season (39 completed games). They are 73-50 in their other 123 completed games.

Props on this game
2- GARY'S PICKRYAN VILADEH+R+RBI UNDER 1.5
I'm taking Ryan Vilade Under 1.5 hits, runs and RBIs at -140. The cleanup spot looks dangerous on the lineup card, but his job is narrow. Vilade is a platoon bat. He sat both ALDS games against right-handers Gerrit Cole and Cam Schlittler. He started Game 3 against Max Fried and gave way to Cedric Mullins late. He has averaged three plate appearances a game all season, so he rarely gets a full night.
Tonight sets up the same way. Foster Griffin starts, and once he leaves, Cleveland's leverage arms are right-handed: Cade Smith, Hunter Gaddis, Matt Festa, Shawn Armstrong and the newly added Slade Cecconi. Kevin Cash has four left-handed bats on his bench in Mullins, Chandler Simpson, Liam Hicks and Richie Palacios. Vilade carries a .641 OPS against righties, so if the game is close late, his spot is an obvious place to pinch hit. That leaves him two or three trips against Griffin to reach two.
The form is cold too. He is 4 for 30 over the last fifteen days and 6 for 39 with 14 strikeouts over his last fifteen games. His September finished at .182 with a .548 OPS.
The case against me is real. He hits lefties hard, .272 with an .818 OPS and seven homers in 170 plate appearances. He bats behind Yandy Díaz, Jonathan Aranda and Junior Caminero, who all get on base, so RBI chances will come. His home run off Fried in his last game shows the power plays in October, and one homer clears this line alone. I also have Griffin giving up runs tonight, but I expect most of that damage from the top three. I'll take the under on a platoon player with a short leash.
- GARY'S PICKFOSTER GRIFFINPITCHER EARNED RUNS OVER 1.5
I'm taking Foster Griffin Over 1.5 earned runs at -133. My case is how he gives up runs. Over his last five starts he allowed 34 hits in 23.1 innings. Every run scored off him across his recent outings came without a ball leaving the yard. He leaks runs through strings of singles and doubles. Tonight he faces the lineup built to string hits together: Tampa Bay struck out less than any team in the majors and puts pressure on defenses with contact and speed.
The right-handed bats are where this bet gets made. Griffin has been clearly more hittable by right-handed batters than left-handed ones this season, and the Rays start six righties tonight. Díaz, Caminero and Vilade all hit lefties well, and Caminero owns a .916 OPS against them. Stephen Vogt has said he expects Griffin to give him length. More innings against this order means more chances for the second run. Any runner Griffin leaves behind for a Cleveland bullpen that carried the ALDS still goes on his line.
The case against me deserves respect. Tropicana Field suppresses scoring, and the Rays scored only ten runs across three October games. The bottom of their order, Jonny DeLuca, Ben Williamson, Taylor Walls and Nick Fortes, all have OPS marks under .700 against lefties, and the club hit southpaws worse than righties overall. Eight of the eleven earned runs from Griffin's final three starts came in one Baltimore start. He has a sharp first-inning record and kept the ball in the park all September. If Vogt pulls him quickly after one run, this ticket comes up short.
Still, I only need two earned runs from a pitcher who has allowed at least that many in most of his recent starts. He faces a contact-heavy, right-handed lineup that stays patient enough to wait for the next single. I'll lay the price.
