The read
It's an elimination game under the lights at Truist Park. The Braves send deadline pickup Tyler Mahle out to save their season, and Tyler Glasnow can put the two-time defending champions into a third straight NLCS. Atlanta's position deserves respect, but I'm laying the price with Los Angeles.
Mahle has been terrific as a Brave: a 1.91 ERA across 10 starts, including seven innings of one-run ball against Philadelphia. With Sean Murphy catching and Mauricio Dubón at short, Atlanta has the best defensive alignment it could ask for behind Mahle. There are warning signs underneath the ERA, though. His strikeouts are down to 6.4 per nine over his last five starts, and he has stranded runners at a rate near 87%. Right-handed hitters have a .788 OPS against Mahle this season, and the Dodgers start five of them tonight. Freddie Freeman already has two homers in this series and is 8-for-19 for his career against Mahle. The Dodgers are 0-for-13 with runners in scoring position in the series, yet they have a 12.7% barrel rate. Their results are trailing the quality of their at-bats, which is different from an offense that's broken.
The real risk on the Dodgers' side is Glasnow's 12 full days without game action, and it's the reason this price isn't bigger. The underlying numbers are elite: a 2.88 xERA, 11.92 K/9, and a .175 average allowed to both lefties and righties. Atlanta's lineup is hitting .196 this postseason. Baldwin, Acuña and Olson are a combined 10-for-67, and Austin Riley is 1-for-12 with 8 strikeouts in his career against Glasnow. If Roberts has to go to the pen early, that's where the gap is widest. Atlanta used Raisel Iglesias, Dylan Lee, Brent Suter and Dylan Dodd last night, and its relievers have allowed 13 homers in 48.1 tracked innings. The Dodgers used only two relievers. Alex Vesia and five other arms have had at least two full days off, and their bullpen has allowed one homer in 31 tracked innings. Atlanta won five of six in the regular season and the crowd will be loud, but the Dodgers have the deeper lineup and the fresher bullpen.
The research
The dated measurements the app shows under this card — observations with their sample and source, not predictions.
STARTER FORM
Tyler Glasnow: 4.96 ERA over his last 3 starts
4.96Glasnow has a 4.96 ERA over his last three starts and 16.1 innings, with a 1.16 WHIP against 0.95 for the season. He is putting more hitters on base than he has all year, and that traffic separates this stretch from his 3.53 season mark. Three starts is a small sample, so a dip is likelier than a new baseline. At Atlanta, watch whether he keeps the bases clean early.
HEAT CHECK
Will Smith: 1.182 OPS in Last 15 Days
1.182Smith has a 1.182 OPS in 31 AB over the last 15 days, against .781 for the season, a 0.401 swing. Thirty-one at-bats is a short sample, and a number like 1.182 rarely holds. With 10 home runs on the season, he is a solid hitter running hot. His total-bases line at Atlanta is 1.5, which needs a double or two hits, so price it closer to the .781 hitter than the hot stretch.
Mookie Betts: 1.046 OPS in Last 15 Days
1.046Betts has a 1.046 OPS over the last 15 days against a .780 season mark, across 46 AB, a decent sample for two weeks. His 23 home runs on the season show he has the power for stretches like this, though some regression toward .780 is likely. His total-bases line at Atlanta is 1.5, which needs a double or two hits, so his extra-base form matters more here than in a one-hit prop.
COOLING OFF
Freddie Freeman: .489 OPS in Last 15 Days
.489Freeman has a .489 OPS over 46 AB in the last 15 days, well under his .792 season mark. Two weeks of at-bats is a window where a few hard-hit outs can drag the number down. A .792 hitter usually drifts back toward his baseline. At Atlanta, weigh his full season more heavily than this stretch when you look at his props.
Ozzie Albies: .405 OPS in Last 15 Days
.405Albies has a .405 OPS in 43 AB over the last 15 days, down 0.28 from his .685 season mark. That is a cold two weeks in a small sample, and his season number was already modest, so any bounce back has a low ceiling. In LAD at ATL, the .685 is the better guide to his production, with the slump as a reason for caution on his overs.
BULLPEN
Atlanta Braves pen: 15.1 relief IP across 3 games
15.1 IPBrent Suter worked 2 games (54 pitches); Raisel Iglesias worked 2 games (25 pitches; 2.55 season ERA over 60 IP). The pen allowed 7 ER in that 15.1-IP span (Oct 3–Oct 6).
FIRST INNING
LAD have gone quiet in the 1st: runs in 0 of their last 9
0/9LAD scored in the first inning in 0 of the 9 sampled games. 2026 first-inning pitching samples — Tyler Mahle: 6.00 ERA, .329 opponent AVG across 18.0 IP, 3 HR; Tyler Glasnow: 3.46 ERA, .191 opponent AVG across 13.0 IP, 1 HR.
HEAD-TO-HEAD
Braves are 5-1 vs Dodgers this season
5-1Atlanta has taken five of six from Los Angeles, and the most recent meeting was a 1-0 game. The sheet says nothing about who pitched, where the earlier games were played or the other margins, so the record has no stated cause. Six games is a small sample. Tonight is in Atlanta, and the starters and current form tell you more about this game than the 5-1 series mark.
STREAK
LAD games have gone UNDER 8 straight
U8Across the last 8 Dodgers games, the two sides have combined for 5.5 runs a night while the market kept posting totals around 7.8. Nothing on the sheet explains the drop, no pitcher or lineup change, and 8 games is a short run. Tonight's total in Atlanta sits at 7.5, so the books have already moved toward the trend. The gap between recent scoring and the number is narrower now, which leaves the under less room than the streak suggests.

Props on this game
2- GARY'S PICKTYLER MAHLEK'S OVER 3.5
I'm taking Tyler Mahle over 3.5 strikeouts at -150. This number sits a full strikeout below where it was for his Wild Card start. I think that drop overcorrects for the short leash an elimination game brings.
The case starts with the Dodgers' bats right now. Shohei Ohtani has struck out 24 times over his last 15 games, Teoscar Hernández has 20 over the same stretch, and Freddie Freeman has 16. This lineup has already swung through a lot of Atlanta pitching in this series. Chris Sale struck out seven in five innings last night, and Dylan Dodd fanned four in three innings in Game 1. Mahle has leaned harder on his splitter since the trade, and in his last start against Philadelphia that pitch produced his best swing-and-miss showing of the stretch: six strikeouts over seven innings. Tripp Gibson behind the plate has called a slightly bigger strikeout game than the league norm this year. Mahle has averaged better than five strikeouts a start this season, so four is a modest ask if he gets into the fifth.
The risk is the hook. Atlanta has an off day tomorrow before a potential Game 5. Walt Weiss already ran two bullpen games in this round, and with the season on the line he has every reason to pull Mahle at the first sign of trouble. Mahle is also coming off 12 days without a start, and he struck out only three in each of his two September outings against the Phillies. Several Dodgers have put the ball in play against him: Will Smith has never struck out in 11 trips, and Freeman has fanned three times in 22. If Mahle is gone after three innings, this ticket loses.
- GARY'S PICKMAURICIO DUBONH+R+RBI OVER 0.5
I'm taking Mauricio Dubón over 0.5 hits plus runs plus RBIs at -175. It's an expensive price. I'm paying it because he gives me three ways to cash, and he's been Atlanta's most dependable bat over the last two weeks.
Dubón is a right-handed hitter who has been more productive against right-handed pitching all season. He has a hit in each of the last two games of this series. He singled in a run off Blake Snell with the bases loaded in Game 2, and last night he singled off Yoshinobu Yamamoto and scored Atlanta's only run. He rarely strikes out, just 73 times in 572 at-bats this season. That matters against Tyler Glasnow, who does his damage by missing bats. A ball in play gives Dubón a chance, and even without a hit he can cash this by scoring or by driving in a run with a ground ball or a fly. Harris, Acuña, Olson, Albies and Baldwin all hit ahead of him, so if traffic forms, he's in position to cash it.
The strongest case against this ticket is Glasnow himself. Right-handed hitters have done almost nothing against him this year, and Dubón has little power to punish a mistake. Batting seventh trims his trips to the plate, and once Glasnow leaves, Dubón faces a rested Dodgers bullpen. Atlanta has scored three runs or fewer in every game of this round, which shrinks the run and RBI routes. His one-for-two career line against Glasnow is too small to lean on in either direction.
