The read

The Trop hosts a first-place club riding four straight wins and a last-place visitor beginning a road trip after a 2-5 week. That is the scene, but the ticket rests on the matchup underneath it.

Robert Stock owns a 7.40 ERA and 1.94 WHIP through 20.2 IP, and his latest start ended after 4.0 IP, 10 H and 7 ER. He has not completed five innings in four consecutive starts. Ian Seymour is not spotless—his home-start ERA is 5.58—but his broader foundation is firmer: a 4.21 ERA and 1.15 WHIP over 107.0 IP, plus a 3.71 ERA with 24 K and 4 BB across his last three starts.

The handedness splits reinforce the gap. Tampa Bay has hit .266 with a .757 OPS against right-handed pitching; New York has hit .234 with a .695 OPS against lefties. Behind them, the listed Rays bullpen carries a 2.37 ERA and 0.96 WHIP over 258.0 IP, compared with a 3.04 ERA and 1.06 WHIP over 80.0 IP for the current Mets arms. The season-wide separation is substantial as well: Tampa Bay has a +54 run differential, while New York sits at -53.

Seymour’s home results and Tampa Bay’s five-reliever workload in Sunday’s 11-inning game keep this from being a high-confidence play. Still, the combination of starting-pitcher stability, handedness performance and bullpen support is enough for me to lay the 1.5 at a plus price.
