The read

I’m laying the short road price because tonight’s strongest, most trustworthy edge is the starting-pitcher gap. Roki Sasaki has held six straight opponents to two earned runs or fewer and owns a 2.31 ERA across his six post-All-Star starts. AJ Smith-Shawver enters with a 6.23 ERA and 1.62 WHIP over only 8.2 innings, and neither of his two starts lasted beyond 4.1 innings. His splitter has missed bats, so I’m not treating him as helpless—just far less proven than the pitcher on the other side.

Los Angeles also owns the stronger season line against right-handed pitching, batting .261 with a .767 OPS compared with Atlanta’s .248 and .725. The Braves’ bullpen deserves respect: its 2.54 ERA and 0.99 WHIP are better than the Dodgers’ 2.85 and 1.04. That relief edge, plus Atlanta’s three wins in four meetings, keeps me away from laying 1.5 runs.

The moneyline fits the read. I want Sasaki’s sustained second-half form and the deeper Dodgers lineup without asking Los Angeles to win by multiple runs. I’m trusting the established starter over the eight-inning wild card.
