The read
This is the Rays moneyline because the portion of the game I trust most begins after the starters leave. Casey Legumina has not completed more than 2.0 innings in any of his five starts, while Jackson Jobe has not gone beyond 5.1 innings in his three starts. That puts substantial weight on two bullpens, and Tampa Bay owns the clear advantage: a 2.37 ERA and 0.96 WHIP versus Detroit’s 3.72 ERA and 1.37 WHIP. Over the last three games, Rays relievers allowed three earned runs in 10.0 innings; Tigers relievers allowed nine in 12.2.
Detroit has a credible early route. Its six right-handed hitters face a pitcher who has allowed righties a .345 average and .845 OPS, and Jobe is coming off 5.1 innings of one-run baseball. Tampa Bay has its own opening against Jobe, whose left-handed opponents have produced a .265 average and .875 OPS, although that split covers only 34 at-bats. Both starters can give the opposing lineup opportunities; Tampa Bay is better equipped to control what follows.
The Rays have won two straight while the Tigers have lost six, but this is not a bet on streaks alone. Neither offense has been rolling—Tampa Bay has scored 2.6 runs per game over its last five and Detroit 2.8—so I want the side with the more dependable late-game structure. Tampa Bay is 18-13 in one-run games; Detroit is 12-22. That is why I am taking the Rays to win at -126 instead of requiring them to cover -1.5.

2Chandler SimpsonOVER 1.5 H+R+RBI H+R+RBI-125
LActual 0
I’m taking Simpson over 1.5 combined hits, runs and RBIs. He has cleared this in 12 of his last 15 games while batting .370 during that span, and his 5% recent whiff rate makes him particularly well suited to handle Jobe’s velocity. Simpson also owns a .326 average against right-handed pitching.
Jobe has allowed left-handed hitters a .265 average and .875 OPS since returning, with concerning results on both his four-seamer and slider. Simpson does not need to drive the ball out of spacious Comerica Park to cash this; one single followed by a run or RBI is enough. If Jobe exits near his established five-inning range, Simpson also gets opportunities against a Detroit bullpen carrying a 1.37 WHIP.
Jackson JobeUNDER 15.5 Pitcher Outs Pitcher Outs-121
WActual 13
I’m taking Jobe under 15.5 outs, which requires Detroit to let him record an out in the sixth inning. His first three starts back from elbow surgery have lasted 5.0, 3.2 and 5.1 innings on 71, 74 and 86 pitches. He has reached 16 outs only once.
Tampa Bay presents a difficult efficiency matchup. The Rays strike out only 7.02 times per game, hit .265 with a .756 OPS against right-handed pitching and are starting five left-handed bats plus a switch-hitter. Jobe’s overall whiff rate has declined in each start, while his four-seamer and slider have produced elevated expected damage. The Rays do not need a big scoring inning for this under; sustained at-bats and a few baserunners can get Jobe removed after five.
