Phillies at Mariners

I’m backing Philadelphia because tonight’s starting-pitcher matchup is materially different from Monday’s. Aaron Nola enters with a 2.12 ERA, 25 strikeouts and five walks across his last three starts; George Kirby enters with an 8.31 ERA, seven strikeouts and seven walks across his last three. Kirby’s 3.40 home ERA is Seattle’s strongest counter, but I trust Nola’s current form more than I trust the bounce-back.

I’m not paying for Monday’s 9-2 fireworks twice. Seattle did that damage while Zack Wheeler allowed eight earned runs, five walks and four home runs in four innings. Nola now brings a knuckle curve carrying a .241 xwOBA and 44.3% whiff rate against a Mariners lineup with a 28.6% recent whiff rate. If he controls the early portion, Philadelphia has the stronger late-game structure: its bullpen owns a 3.44 ERA and 1.20 WHIP, compared with Seattle’s 4.03 ERA and 1.28 WHIP.

The moneyline is the right ticket. My read says Philadelphia is more likely to win, but it does not require a two-run margin. At +102, I’ll take the Phillies to answer yesterday’s loss behind the better current starter and bullpen.
