But tonight brings a complete change on the mound, and I’m backing the Nationals at plus money because Cade Cavalli gives them the clearest advantage in this matchup. Cavalli owns a 2.25 ERA over his last three starts and a 1.73 first-inning ERA; Kumar Rocker enters with an 8.10 ERA over his last three and a 9.00 first-inning ERA. Washington went 5-1 across Cavalli’s last six starts, while Texas went 2-4 across Rocker’s.
The lineup construction strengthens that pitching edge. Rocker has allowed left-handed hitters a .291 average and .858 OPS, compared with .213 and .626 against righties. Seager's barreling the ball as well as anyone in that lineup right now, and he's walking into the part of Cavalli's game that's actually beatable.
