Braves at Twins

Under the lights at Target Field, Minnesota tries to carry the momentum of Monday’s 4-2 win while Atlanta looks to answer with the stronger pitching setup. I’m backing the Braves on the moneyline at -136.

Tyler Mahle gives Atlanta the more reliable starting point. He has a 2.83 ERA across his last five starts, while Zebby Matthews has a 7.04 ERA over his last five. The contact profile supports that difference: Mahle has allowed a 7.0% barrel rate and 37.1% hard-hit rate, compared with 11.6% and 41.5% for Matthews. Mahle’s four-seamer and splitter have produced .293 and .282 xwOBA marks, while Matthews’ most-used pitch, his four-seamer, sits at .413. I’m not ignoring the location—the matchup is at Target Field, where Matthews owns a 3.35 ERA, while Mahle has a 7.07 road ERA. That contrast is why I want Atlanta simply to win rather than laying the run and demanding separation.

The bullpen is what finishes the handicap for me. Atlanta’s current relief group carries a 2.52 ERA and 0.94 WHIP, compared with Minnesota’s 3.73 ERA and 1.34 WHIP. Minnesota used Jeff Hoffman and Yoendrys Gómez in the opener, while Taylor Rogers has pitched on each of the past two game days. Atlanta did not use Dylan Lee, Dylan Dodd or Raisel Iglesias on Monday. That gives the Braves the deeper late-game route if Mahle keeps this close through the middle innings. Minnesota has a legitimate home-starter angle and already showed it can strike early, but Atlanta owns the steadier starter form and the stronger finishing unit. At -136, the moneyline is the ticket that matches the read.
