Monday night under the Trop roof: Tampa Bay is trying to stop a sweep, while Baltimore is protecting the American League’s final wild-card spot. This has the feel of a tense getaway game, not a track meet.
I’m buying the run, not asking Baltimore to win a fourth straight. Brandon Young has consistently kept the Orioles competitive, especially on the road, and Tropicana Field suppresses the kind of crooked inning that kills a run-line ticket.
McClanahan may pitch well, but three rehab innings do not guarantee length in his first start back. Tampa Bay’s rested leverage bullpen could ultimately secure the game, yet that points me toward a narrow Rays win as much as a comfortable one. Baltimore winning outright or losing by one gives me enough ways to cash.

The price does not fully account for McClanahan’s likely workload. He has gone 17 days between major-league starts, made only one three-inning rehab appearance and was removed after 49 pitches the last time Tampa Bay used him.
His stuff looked sharp in the tune-up, but sharpness and length are different questions. He has exceeded four strikeouts in only two of his past eight starts, so I’m taking the under before a cautious return leaves him needing near-perfect strikeout efficiency.

Jackson is hitless in 13 at-bats over the past 15 days and has produced a hit in only one of his last 15 appearances. I don’t need that drought to continue forever; I only need one more quiet game, and the plus-money price makes the risk worthwhile.
He bats seventh against McClanahan, who has held right-handed hitters to a .229 average and owns a changeup that has limited opponents to a .145 average. Once McClanahan exits, Jackson still has to deal with a rested Tampa Bay bullpen carrying a 0.95 WHIP.
