The read
Sunday afternoon under the roof at Rogers Centre, with Toronto trying to finish a sweep and New York trying to stop a three-game skid. This is the kind of getaway game where the obvious storyline can become expensive.
Cease is the better starter, but the price is asking bettors to chase the ace, the hot club and the sweep. Weathers has allowed one earned run across his past three starts, while Toronto owns a weak .626 OPS against left-handed pitching and is now without Vladimir Guerrero Jr. His ugly history against the Jays is real, but his current five-pitch mix is better than the version they punished earlier this season.
The bullpen situation breaks New York’s way. Toronto has used Rogers, Fluharty and Varland on consecutive days, while Cruz and Bednar are rested. I only need the Yankees’ hard contact to produce a few timely hits before the game reaches their fresher late-inning arms. At plus money, I’ll bet on the stronger club avoiding the sweep.

2Dylan CeaseOVER 8.5 Strikeouts Strikeouts-103
WActual 10
Cease has the ideal swing-and-miss matchup against a Yankees lineup averaging more than nine strikeouts per game. His slider owns a 42% whiff rate, his changeup is even nastier at 53.7%, and New York has several hitters running whiff rates of 25% or higher. He has reached double-digit strikeouts in three of his past five starts, and I’m willing to back nine at nearly even money.
Alejandro KirkOVER 1.5 H+R+RBI H+R+RBI+101
LActual 1
Kirk is locked into the heart of the order and has cleared this number in nine of his past 15 games. He is 8-for-19 over the past week and 3-for-6 with three RBIs in this series, so he can cash this through multiple paths. With Bateman and McAdoo setting the table ahead of him, plus money is enough for me to ride Toronto’s hottest run producer.
