Sunday afternoon in Sacramento, hot sun over a small ballpark, with the series and Texas’ place in the playoff race both sitting on the table. This has the feel of a game that stays close until one bullpen has to blink.
Cody Bradford is the arm I trust more to control the shape of it. Oakland has stacked right-handed hitters against him, but his changeup plays especially well to that side, and the Athletics are sitting several of their better bats. Jacob Lopez has genuinely turned a corner, but Texas’ right-handed lineup is the tougher matchup for him, even without Corey Seager.
I considered the Texas run line, but Lopez’s recent form makes laying 1.5 too ambitious. The deciding edge is after the starters leave: Texas owns the deeper bullpen and the cleaner defense, while Oakland’s relief group has spent too much of the past week leaking runs. I’ll pay the manageable price and back the Rangers simply to win.
