Hot Sunday afternoon at Truist Park, wind drifting toward left, with Arizona chasing the sweep and Atlanta trying to stop a rough weekend before leaving town.
I’m backing the Braves because this lineup is built to make Soroka’s return uncomfortable. Atlanta can stack left-handed bats against a pitcher who has been much tougher on righties, and his workload remains a concern in only his second start back. That creates an earlier path into Arizona’s middle relief, even if the back end of that bullpen is excellent.
Elder is volatile, but Arizona has produced a modest .688 OPS against right-handed pitching, and his changeup gives him a legitimate weapon against Carroll, Marte and the other left-side threats. I want no part of Atlanta’s expensive run line against Arizona’s bullpen, but -124 is a playable price for the Braves to salvage the finale at home.

Soroka needed 77 pitches to record 13 outs in his first start back, and I’m not counting on Arizona extending him much further in this heat. Atlanta can load the lineup with left-handed bats, the side against which Soroka has been considerably more vulnerable, and that should create enough traffic to prevent six completed innings. I like getting plus money on five innings or fewer.

Jarvis enters hitless in his last 10 at-bats and just 2-for-28 over the past 15 days. Batting ninth also limits his plate appearances and leaves him dependent on the bottom of Atlanta’s order to create run-producing chances. Arizona’s bullpen has allowed only three earned runs over its last seven games, so the matchup does not become substantially easier after Soroka exits. Plus money is generous for Jarvis to finish without a hit, run or RBI.
