The read
Clouds over Wrigley, a light breeze carrying toward left, and a rivalry game with Chicago chasing Milwaukee. I’m backing the Cubs to win with room.
The starting-pitcher matchup decided it. Matthew Boyd blanked St. Louis for seven innings just 17 days ago, while Michael McGreevy was tagged for seven runs in 1 2/3 innings by these Cubs the previous night. Chicago’s lineup is rolling, Suzuki and Bregman are driving the baseball, and McGreevy’s hittable fastball-cutter combination is a dangerous fit against them.
I considered taking the run with a live Cardinals club, especially with Boyd facing a right-handed-heavy order. But I’m not paying -122 for protection against the better team. At plus money, I’ll accept the variance and bet Chicago’s edge in the rotation, lineup and bullpen to produce a multi-run win.
