The read
Under the lights at Globe Life Field, Texas is looking to keep its winning streak going after taking Friday’s opener in a close game. I’m backing the Rangers to win again.
Jacob deGrom’s recent results look rough, but he has pitched better than those results suggest. His off-speed pitches are tough to hit, and he has much better control than Kyle Bradish. Baltimore’s lineup has barely scored over its last two games, and several of its biggest hitters come in struggling.
Both starters are making their first appearance for new clubs, so this game carries real uncertainty. Still, Texas has the hotter lineup, the better bullpen over the full season, and the advantage of playing at home in a controlled environment. I expect deGrom and the heart of the Rangers’ lineup to make the difference.
The full analysis
Jacob deGrom’s recent results are ugly, but his underlying profile remains stronger than Kyle Bradish’s: a 3.58 xERA, elite swing-and-miss secondaries and far better command. Baltimore’s lineup has scored only two runs across its last two games, and several of its most important bats enter this matchup cold.

3Jacob deGromUNDER 17.5 Pitcher Outs Pitcher Outs+103
WActual 15
I can back Texas without asking deGrom to complete six innings. He has finished fewer than six in four consecutive starts, including just 13 innings across his last three, while issuing seven walks in that span. Baltimore has enough patient hitters to extend at-bats even if the offense remains quiet. With plus money attached, I’m betting deGrom records fewer than 18 outs.
Kyle BradishUNDER 5.5 Strikeouts Strikeouts-118
WActual 4
Bradish has not reached six strikeouts in any of his last six starts, and he has completed only 7 2/3 innings across his last two. His breaking balls can still miss bats, but the walks and shorter outings have limited his strikeout ceiling. Texas does not need to dominate him for this under to cash; I just need Bradish to stay at five or fewer again.
Joc PedersonOVER 0.5 Home Runs Home Runs+600
LActual 0
Pederson is my favorite home-run price on this board. He has four homers over his last 15 games, produced two barrels on 14 recent balls in play and drove a Bradish-style mid-90s fastball 414 feet Friday night.
Bradish’s four-seamer has allowed a .301 average and a .342 xwOBA, making it the vulnerable part of his mix. Batting leadoff also gives Pederson the best chance at four or five trips to the plate.
At +600, I’ll bet the combination of current power, matchup and opportunity.
