Getaway day in the mountains, early afternoon start with the sun out. Tampa Bay has already won the first two games here, both of them high-scoring slugfests, and Colorado gets one last shot before the team buses head to St. Louis. That's a lineup that's giving away outs.
Martinez isn't the type to blow anybody away, and the thin air here will flatten out his changeup, which is the pitch that makes everything else work. I've accounted for that. But he's barely walked anyone over his last three outings, and he doesn't need to be great — he just needs to get through five or six, and then the bullpen takes over with Cleavinger, Kelly, Wells and Baker, the same group that shut the door for most of a game on Tuesday without ever looking stressed. Colorado's answer is Jordan Romano and whatever arms are left after they emptied the bullpen last night. I backed the Rockies the last two nights as underdogs and watched the same ending both times; the discipline is to stop paying for the story and take the better team at a fair price. I'm staying away from the spread — this ballpark is no place to give away runs — so I'm taking Tampa Bay straight up to win, and I expect them to leave Denver with a sweep.

I took the Rockies the last two nights at a price and watched the same ending twice; the discipline is to stop paying for the story and take the better team at a fair number. I'm passing on the run line — Coors is no place to lay a run and a half — and putting it on the moneyline. Rays -153, and I expect them to leave Denver with the broom.
