Getaway day at Busch Stadium, a 2:15 first pitch, and there's a strange tension hanging over this one — the Cardinals just stole a game in ten innings to avoid the sweep, the trade deadline is bearing down, and the front office in St. Louis has been telegraphing a sell for weeks. Chicago walked out of last night's loss having wasted seven shutout innings from Matthew Boyd, but don't let one walk-off rewrite the series: the Cubs outscored the home team 19-8 through the first three games, and they arrive scoring better than six runs a game over the last two weeks. One of these clubs is playing October-track baseball. The other is sitting at .500, three-and-seven in its last ten, and drifting.

Outside of Burleson and a warming Herrera, the Cardinals' bats are frozen — three runs a game over their last ten.
