The read
Houston has controlled this series and won five straight, but I’m not letting talk of a sweep make the decision for me. In a game that looks close to even, I trust Chicago’s starting pitching path more.
Fedde is not perfect, but he has been fairly dependable over a much larger body of work than Blanco, who has made only one start. Blanco got plenty of swings and misses against Miami, but he also walked three, allowed two home runs and gave up a lot of hard contact. That is risky against a lineup that can use six left-handed or switch hitters. Chicago also has the bullpen edge because Abreu, Sousa and Hader have pitched on back-to-back days, while several of the White Sox’s key relievers are rested. Chicago has won far more than it has lost at home. Colson Montgomery being scratched and Houston’s top three hitters staying hot keep my bet modest, but I still think the Sox win often enough at this price.
The full analysis
Fedde is imperfect, but his .328 xwOBA allowed over 93 innings is a much firmer baseline than Blanco’s one-start sample. Blanco missed bats against Miami, yet three walks, two homers and extreme hard contact are dangerous against a lineup that can send six left-handed or switch hitters to the plate. The bullpen setup also leans Chicago: Abreu, Sousa and Hader have worked consecutive days, while several White Sox leverage options are rested. Chicago’s 31-19 home record helps. Colson Montgomery’s scratch and Houston’s hot top three keep this modest, but I have the Sox above the break-even point at -114.

Jeremy Peña enters Sunday's finale as one of the hottest hitters in baseball, posting a .500 AVG (11-for-22) with 3 HR, 6 RBI, and a 1.409 OPS over his last 7 days, including back-to-back 3-hit games to open this series in Chicago. Batting leadoff for an Astros offense averaging 6.2 runs per game over their 5-game winning streak ensures him 4 to 5 plate impressions. Peña faces White Sox starter Erick Fedde, a right-hander who has struggled significantly against right-handed hitters all season, surrendering a .265 BA, an .832 OPS, and 12 home runs across 166 ABs to RHBs. At +104 odds, the break-even probability is 49.0%, giving us an attractive value on a leadoff hitter in peak form who can clear 1.5 total bases with a single extra-base hit or multiple singles.
