Saturday night at American Family Field, the roof is closed and Milwaukee is trying to respond after Colorado won the opener by three runs. I’m not paying a steep price just for a Brewers win. I’m taking Milwaukee to win by at least two because its edge in starting pitching, defense and available late-game relievers gives it a better chance to pull away.
Robert Gasser has pitched better than his overall results suggest, while Ryan Feltner has been worse. Gasser allows much less hard contact, and Feltner has been hit hard in each of his last two starts. Gasser, meanwhile, gave up only one run in his latest outing. The left-right matchups are not perfect for either starter, but Milwaukee has several left-handed or switch hitters facing the pitcher with the shakier contact numbers.
My concern is Milwaukee’s recent offense, which has been quieter than Colorado’s, so this is not one of my strongest plays. The Brewers have also been the better defensive team. Taking Colorado to stay within one run would mean trusting Feltner and the team around him to keep this close. I don’t, so I’m taking the better price on Milwaukee to win by at least two.
