Globe Life Field will have the roof closed, and these division rivals meet again after Texas won the opener by one run. At this near-even price, I’m backing the Rangers to win outright instead of paying a much steeper price for extra protection.
Bryan Woo’s overall pitching has been better, but he has been far worse on the road than at home. Texas also has a left-handed-heavy lineup against a pitcher who has been more vulnerable to that side. More importantly, the Rangers are making much better contact lately. Joc Pederson, Wyatt Langford and Brandon Nimmo are all hitting well enough at the top of the order to pressure Woo early.
Seattle still has real advantages. Nathan Eovaldi has struggled more with left-handed hitters, Woo’s overall results are better, and Seattle’s late-inning pitchers are better rested. J.P. Crawford is back, while Texas has to deal with losing Josh Jung. That keeps this from being one of my strongest plays, but I still would not make Seattle the favorite on the road. Texas has been better at home than Seattle has been away, has won most of the season meetings and has handled close games better. I see this as basically a toss-up, so I’ll take the home team at the better price.

Globe Life Field is buttoned up under a closed roof, and these AL West rivals meet again after Texas took the opener 5-4. At this price, I’m backing the Rangers to win outright rather than paying -192 for the protection of Texas +1.5.
Bryan Woo has the better underlying pitching numbers, including a 3.45 xERA and 1.09 WHIP, but his location split is the hinge of this bet. His road ERA is 6.28, compared with 2.20 at home, and Texas sends six left-handed hitters against a pitcher allowing a .716 OPS to that side. More importantly, the Rangers are producing the stronger contact right now: over their last three games, they have a .392 xwOBA and 37.7% hard-hit rate, while Seattle is at .298 and 27.2%. Joc Pederson has posted a 1.226 OPS over the last 15 days, Wyatt Langford is at .998 and Brandon Nimmo is at 1.004. That is enough current production at the top to challenge Woo before Texas reaches the softer portion of its order.
Seattle has legitimate counters. Nathan Eovaldi has allowed a .783 OPS to left-handed hitters, Woo owns the better xERA, and Seattle enters with the cleaner late-inning availability. J.P. Crawford is also back while Texas must absorb the [NEW] loss of Josh Jung. Those factors keep this from being a high-confidence play, but they do not justify making Seattle the road favorite in my book. Texas is 26-24 at home while Seattle is 21-30 away, and the Rangers have taken six of nine meetings this season. Texas has also gone 19-10 in one-run games compared with Seattle’s 14-17. Those records are not guarantees, but they reinforce why the moneyline is the proper ticket. In what I price as essentially a coin flip, I’ll take the home side at -104.
