Saturday night at PNC Park features Shota Imanaga against Paul Skenes, with Chicago looking to take the series. For me, the bet comes down to whether Skenes gives Pittsburgh enough of a pitching edge at home. I believe he does.
Skenes has been better overall, especially at home and at night, while Imanaga has been less effective on the road and in night games. Both are pitching well lately. Imanaga has also been excellent against Pittsburgh, but the Pirates now have Esmerlyn Valdez, who has crushed left-handed pitching and shown big home-run power. In a ballpark that tends to limit scoring, I trust Skenes’ stronger overall outlook.
Pittsburgh’s relief pitching is the concern. The Pirates have struggled to protect leads, and their relievers worked much harder than Chicago’s on Friday. The Cubs have also scored more lately, though Pittsburgh has been slightly better offensively across the full season. That is why I do not want the more expensive option of getting an extra run with Pittsburgh. I think Skenes gets the Pirates over the line, so my pick is Pittsburgh to win.

Saturday night at PNC Park brings a marquee pitching duel, with Shota Imanaga facing Paul Skenes as Chicago tries to secure the series. Under the lights, this wager comes down to whether Skenes’ starting-pitcher advantage is worth the modest home price.
For me, it is. Skenes owns a 3.43 ERA, 1.04 WHIP and 2.75 xERA, compared with Imanaga’s 3.91 ERA, 1.11 WHIP and 3.74 xERA. The setting strengthens that edge: Skenes has a 3.04 home ERA and 2.61 night ERA, while Imanaga has a 3.68 road ERA and 4.21 night ERA. Both starters enter in good form—Skenes just delivered seven innings of one-run ball, while Imanaga threw seven scoreless. I respect Imanaga’s .118 batting average allowed across five games against Pittsburgh, but this Pirates lineup now includes Esmerlyn Valdez, who has a 1.405 OPS and seven home runs against left-handed pitching. With PNC Park’s 0.94 run factor, I trust the starter carrying the stronger expected profile.
The bullpen is the danger in this ticket, and I’m not hiding it. Pittsburgh has 18 blown saves, and its four relievers combined for 75 pitches Friday; Chicago used three relievers for 27. The Cubs have also averaged 6.2 runs over their last five games against Pittsburgh’s 3.8, although the season-long offensive comparison favors the Pirates slightly: a .260 average, .760 OPS and 5.2 runs per game versus Chicago’s .244, .748 and 5.1. That tension is why I’m not paying -205 for Pittsburgh’s +1.5. My read says the superior starter gets Pittsburgh across the finish line, so I want the cleaner price and the outright result: Pirates moneyline.
