I see this game as much closer to even than the betting line suggests, so I’ll take the uncertainty and the better payout with Oakland to win.

Minnesota owns the bullpen-rest advantage, and that keeps my confidence measured. Its top two late-inning options did not pitch Friday, while three key Oakland relievers each threw 10-12 pitches. Those Oakland workloads were still controlled, however, and the Athletics have the more appealing recent offensive core. Over the last 15 days, Jacob Wilson has a .991 OPS, Tyler Soderstrom a .954 OPS, Tommy White an .835 OPS and Jeff McNeil an .855 OPS. Oakland has averaged 4.0 runs over its last 10 games against Minnesota’s 3.6. I make this contest much closer to even than the moneyline suggests, so I’ll accept the starting-pitcher volatility and take the better payout on the Athletics to win outright.
