Mexico at United States

The lights are bright in Houston as the United States and Mexico clash in a high-stakes Pool B showdown that will likely decide the group. When you look at the starting pitching matchup, the talent gap between these two rosters becomes glaringly apparent.

The United States is sending out reigning National League Cy Young winner Paul Skenes, who brings a dominant 1.96 ERA and 0.95 WHIP into the contest. On the other side, Mexico is turning to veteran Manny Barreda, whose limited Major League action has yielded a 13.50 ERA and 2.25 WHIP. In a tournament environment where early offensive momentum dictates bullpen usage, asking Barreda to navigate a lineup featuring Aaron Judge, Bryce Harper, Bobby Witt Jr., and a red-hot Gunnar Henderson is an incredibly tall order.
