The read
My main reason is that Pittsburgh's offense has been the weakest unit in this game, and tonight it goes on the road against the kind of defense that already shut it down once. Over three games the Steelers rank 29th in EPA per play (-0.169, per DraftKings Network). Rodgers has a 42.4 QBR and averages 5.9 yards per attempt when throwing to wide receivers, which is last in the league. The only other road trip was a 3-20 loss at New England, where the team's own recap blamed pressure, fumbles and execution, and Freiermuth said New England's physical play was the problem. The 30-27 win over Cincinnati gets the most attention, but it had help: a roughing-the-punter penalty and a muffed punt kept Pittsburgh drives alive, and the game ended on a strip-sack, not on the offense running out the clock. Rodgers himself warned against reading too much into either game. Cleveland's defense is the bad matchup for an offense like this. It ranks 3rd in pressure rate and 4th in quick-pressure rate, and quick pressure is the thing that hurts a quick-release quarterback most. Mason Graham has 4 sacks on 5 charted pressures from the interior, and he faces a Pittsburgh right side that has started together once: rookie Max Iheanachor made his first start at right tackle last week, and Brock Hoffman moved to right guard. Pittsburgh's red-zone offense has also gone nowhere so far, at 0.65 yards per play on 17 snaps. That's a small sample, but it fits the rest of the picture.
Second, the price fits the game. The total is 37.5, and in a game this low, 2.5 points is worth a lot. I'm getting them on a home underdog in a division game at -102, while backing Pittsburgh costs -120. That -120 showed up Wednesday morning, before any of this week's injury news, and the spread never moved off 2.5. Cleveland's kicker is 6-for-6. Pittsburgh's is 6-for-8 and has missed twice from 50+. In a close, low-scoring game that could matter.
The strongest case against this pick is Cleveland's interior line, and I take it seriously. Center Elgton Jenkins played every snap in Week 3 and has been ruled out with a concussion. That news broke Wednesday night, so it's new information. Luke Wypler is expected to start at center next to rookie Austin Barber, on a short week, against a front that leads the league with an 11.8% sack rate when rushing four or fewer. Watt and Highsmith have 6.5 sacks between them. Cleveland can't run the ball well (0.6 yards before contact per carry), its offense throws short, and it has converted 3 of 19 third-and-7-or-longer chances. Watson also left last week's game briefly after a hit. On the other side, Jaylen Warren and the improving Pittsburgh run game face a run defense that ranks 22nd in DVOA and has allowed 13 explosive runs. Pittsburgh winning by exactly 3 is the result that beats me.
Still, both offenses face a line mismatch tonight, and Cleveland has been the better offense per play this season (-0.06 vs -0.169 EPA). In a game I expect to be ugly and decided late, I'd rather take the 2.5 points at home with the cheaper price than pay -120 for a road offense that has had one good game in three. Cleveland has also won its last two by finishing drives late. A note on availability: safety Grant Delpit (100% of snaps last week) and cornerback Tyson Campbell are questionable, and I couldn't confirm their game-day status, so I haven't assumed either one plays. That uncertainty is part of why this pick is small.

QUARTERBACK
Aaron Rodgers is the projected starting quarterback for PIT
6.2 Y/AThrough 3 games in 2026, Aaron Rodgers threw for 700 passing yards, completed 58.4% of his passes and averaged 6.2 yards per attempt. Last season over 16 games he threw for 3322 yards, completed 65.7% and averaged 6.67 yards per attempt, 24-7 touchdowns to interceptions. This season's 4-2 touchdown-to-interception line is 3 games in.
Deshaun Watson is the projected starting quarterback for CLE
7.16 Y/AThrough 3 games in 2026, Deshaun Watson threw for 587 passing yards, completed 68.3% of his passes and averaged 7.16 yards per attempt. His 5-1 touchdown-to-interception line rounds out the current sample without turning an early-season profile into a settled one.
TRENCHES
PIT: 4.27 yards per rush attempt to CLE's 3.43
0.83 Y/CPittsburgh runs for 4.27 a carry over 3 games, almost exactly its 4.26 from last season, so that number looks real. Cleveland is at 3.43, down from 3.9, which is a 3-game dip that could bounce back some. The Steelers look like the team that can lean on the ground game and control the tempo, while the Browns may get pushed toward passing on schedule.
PASS RUSH
CLE: 17.3 sack yards lost per game to PIT's 25.7
8.3 YDSPIT is at 25.7 sack yards lost per game over 3 games; CLE is at 17.3 over 3 games. Those are this season's games through Sep 30. Last season PIT was at 14.8 over 17 games and CLE at 20.3 over 17 games.
PACE & SCRIPT
PIT @ CLE carries a 38.5 market total
38.5At 38.5, this game sits 7 points under the 45.5 slate median, so the market expects a slow game settled by field goals and a couple of long drives. The sheet gives no injury, pace or scoring history, so the number is the only evidence. For that low total to crack, one side needs short fields from turnovers or a defensive score. A bettor can ask how many points one extra touchdown moves this game, since 7 points is the whole gap to the median.
PIT: 63.3 offensive plays per game to CLE's 55.7
7.7 PLAYSPIT is at 63.3 offensive plays per game over 3 games; CLE is at 55.7 over 3 games. Those are this season's games through Sep 30. Last season PIT was at 58.1 over 17 games and CLE at 60.6 over 17 games.
PIT: 20 points allowed per game to CLE's 23.7
3.7 PPGPIT is at 20 points allowed per game over 3 games; CLE is at 23.7 over 3 games. Those are this season's games through Sep 30. Last season PIT was at 22.8 over 17 games and CLE at 22.3 over 17 games.
TURNOVERS
PIT: 2 takeaways per game to CLE's 0.67
1.33 TOPittsburgh is forcing 2 takeaways a game, Cleveland 0.67, over three games each. Takeaways are among the most random stats week to week, so both numbers are likely to move toward the middle. For PIT @ CLE, the gap favors Pittsburgh in turnover margin, but it's a thin edge to lean on alone.
RED ZONE
PIT: 33.3% red-zone scoring allowed to CLE's 44.4%
11.1 PPPIT is at 33.3% red-zone scoring allowed over 3 games; CLE is at 44.4% over 3 games. Those are what each defense has allowed in this season's games through Sep 30.
COVERAGE
PIT: 192.7 passing yards allowed per game to CLE's 224
31.3 YPGPittsburgh allows 192.7 passing yards a game over three games, Cleveland allows 224. Passing totals depend on which quarterbacks a defense faced and how often opponents had to throw from behind, so three games leaves a lot to schedule. Pittsburgh's pass defense has held up better so far, and Cleveland's coverage looks like the more attackable side in this game.
PIT: 33.3% third downs allowed to CLE's 39%
5.7 PPPittsburgh holds opponents to 33.3% on third down over three games, Cleveland allows 39%. Both are solid marks, and three games is a short sample that rides on the offences faced. Pittsburgh has been the better unit at getting off the field, which points toward shorter drives for Cleveland's offence in this game.
HEAD-TO-HEAD
PIT and CLE are even since 2025
1-1 SERIESBoth meetings last season were low-scoring and the home team won each time: Pittsburgh beat Cleveland 23-9 in October, then managed only 6 points in a 13-6 loss in Cleveland on Dec 28. That is two games, so it says more about how these defenses travel than about either offense. Cleveland held Pittsburgh to 6 at home last time, and this one is in Cleveland, so a grinding, low-total game is the shape these meetings have taken.

Brandin Echols (CB) is questionable for PIT

SITUATIONAL
PIT: 49.3 penalty yards per game to CLE's 69.7
20.3 YDSCleveland is giving away 69.7 penalty yards a game over 3 games, way up from 49.4 last season, while Pittsburgh is steady at 49.3 against 47.2. Three games is a small sample, and Cleveland's jump looks more like noise than a new identity. If the Browns keep handing out free yards at home, it extends Pittsburgh drives and kills their own, which matters most in a tight, low-margin divisional game.
PIT: 207.7 team passing yards per game to CLE's 178.3
29.3 YPGPIT is at 207.7 team passing yards per game over 3 games; CLE is at 178.3 over 3 games. Those are this season's games through Sep 30. Last season PIT was at 202.4 over 17 games and CLE at 165.2 over 17 games.
PIT (2-1) at CLE (2-1), a division game
-10 PT GAPBoth teams are 2-1 with negative point totals, Pittsburgh at -7 and Cleveland at -17. Both records flatter the play. Cleveland has won two straight and is 1-0 at home, while Pittsburgh lost its one road game. A division game between two teams winning close or getting blown out once leans toward a tight spot, not a mismatch.
PIT is on a short week
4d vs 4dPittsburgh and Cleveland both come in on 4 days, so neither side gets a rest edge. Short weeks tend to mean simpler game plans and less practice time for both. That can favor a lower-scoring, conservative game, but schedule alone gives no side an advantage.

2- GARY'S PICKMICHAEL PITTMAN JR.RECEPTIONS UNDER 3.5
Michael Pittman Jr. under 3.5 receptions at -135. The price is heavy, and I'm paying it because the number moved up while his role stayed small. Against Cincinnati last Sunday he was set at 2.5 catches and finished with 2 on 5 targets. This week the book raised him to 3.5. In two games with Pittsburgh he has 5 catches on 8 targets, and he is third among the wide receivers for looks. DK Metcalf has drawn 24 targets and Roman Wilson 18, and Pat Freiermuth and Jaylen Warren are each drawing more per game than Pittman too. He played about three quarters of the snaps against Cincinnati and saw 5 targets, while Wilson saw 6 playing well under half. His snaps aren't turning into volume.
The matchup squeezes it further. Rodgers is averaging 5.9 yards per attempt throwing to wide receivers, the worst mark in the league, against 8.8 when he throws to tight ends. Cleveland ranks 3rd in pressure rate and 4th in quick pressure, and when Rodgers has to get the ball out early, the reads that have worked for him this year go to Freiermuth, Darnell Washington and Warren. With the total at 37.5, I don't expect enough Pittsburgh dropbacks for the fourth or fifth option in the passing game to pile up catches. To get to four, Pittman probably needs six or seven targets, and he hasn't seen more than five in a Steelers uniform.
The best case against me is who Pittman has been. In Indianapolis last season he averaged 4.5 catches over the 10 games on his sheet, with games of 8 and 9 in there, and a big possession receiver fits the quick, underneath throws a pressured quarterback leans on. Cleveland has also allowed 31 catches to wide receivers in three games, and corner Tyson Campbell is questionable. Pittsburgh throws more than its situations call for, so if the Steelers fall behind, the volume could find him. Two games is a thin read on his role in this offense, and the -135 already asks a lot.
- GARY'S PICKMICHAEL PITTMAN JR.RECEIVING YARDS UNDER 32.5
Michael Pittman Jr. under 32.5 receiving yards at -115. The book had him at 26.5 last Sunday and he finished with 16 yards on 2 catches. Now he's at 32.5, six yards higher, for a receiver who sits behind Metcalf and Wilson in targets and averages 4 looks a game. That's a number I'm happy to go against.
The weak spot in this Pittsburgh offense is yardage to wide receivers. Rodgers ranks last in the league in yards per attempt throwing to them at 5.9, and the offense ranks 29th in EPA per play over three games. Cleveland's front is set up to make that worse. It ranks 3rd in pressure rate and 4th in quick pressure, and Mason Graham has 4 sacks from the interior going against a Pittsburgh right side that has played one game together, with rookie Max Iheanachor making his first start at tackle last week. Quick pressure takes away the downfield shots and turns targets into short gains, and the plays that have produced chunk yardage for Pittsburgh have gone to Washington and Wilson. On four targets, Pittman needs one long catch to clear this, which is exactly the throw this matchup is built to take away. Last season in Indianapolis his typical game landed in the 20s, with his average pulled up by three big games of 79, 95 and 115.
The case against is that Cleveland has been generous to wideouts: 458 yards and 5 touchdowns to the position in three games, more than 150 a game. In Week 1 Pittman turned 3 catches into 58 yards, so he has shown he can get over this on light volume, and with Tyson Campbell questionable the Browns could be thinner at corner. This card and my receptions under ride on the same read of his role, so a big night from Pittman beats them both.
