The read
Dallas opens its home schedule with both teams coming off division losses. Washington arrives after falling a two-point conversion short in Philadelphia; the Cowboys return from a game in which their offense barely saw the field after halftime.
I’m taking Washington with the points because Dallas’s defensive problems give the Commanders a credible way to stay competitive. The Cowboys allowed a 60.0% success rate against New York, including 54.5% on early downs. That was sustained movement, not simply a handful of costly breakdowns. Washington’s running game and Jayden Daniels’s mobility can test the containment and communication issues documented in Dallas’s opener.
Dallas now loses DeMarvion Overshown, whose absence is tagged FRESH after he played 74% of its opening defensive snaps. That makes it harder to count on an immediate defensive correction. Washington’s offense remains uneven, but its 132 rushing yards against Philadelphia and two late touchdown drives provide a workable foundation against this particular opponent.
Washington’s defense offers another reason to take the cushion. It allowed a 35.3% success rate and forced seven Philadelphia punts. The concern is substantial: explosive concessions undermined those stops, and Dak Prescott, CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens can punish similar mistakes. Frankie Luvu’s FRESH absence also changes that defense, while Chig Okonkwo’s FRESH absence removes an offensive contributor. This is no clean injury advantage for Washington.
Those vulnerabilities are why I prefer +4.5 to the +180 moneyline. I trust Washington’s opportunities against Dallas’s defense more than I trust Washington to finish an outright win. Dallas has a credible offensive rebound case, but covering requires enough defensive improvement to create separation. At -114, I’m backing the Commanders to keep that task difficult.

The research
The dated measurements the app shows under this card — observations with their sample and source, not predictions.
QUARTERBACK
Marcus Mariota is the projected starting quarterback for WSH
7.47 Y/AIn 2025, Marcus Mariota threw for 1695 passing yards, completed 61.2% of his passes and averaged 7.47 yards per attempt. His 10-7 touchdown-to-interception line puts that prior-season passing production in the context of his ball security over the same sample.
Dak Prescott is the projected starting quarterback for DAL
5.15 Y/AIn his first 2026 game, Dak Prescott threw for 175 passing yards, completed 64.7% of his passes and averaged 5.15 yards per attempt. His 2-1 touchdown-to-interception line comes from a one-game sample, so the relationship between completion rate and per-throw production is still an early read.

Props on this game
3- GARY'S PICKJAYDEN DANIELSPASSING YARDS UNDER 221.5
I'm taking Daniels under 221.5 passing yards at -113. He threw for 164 yards on 34 attempts against Philadelphia, and he has cleared this line in only two of his last eight regular-season appearances when the 2026 opener is included.
Washington has built this offense around a balanced rushing attack, play-action and Daniels' mobility; it ran for 132 yards in Week 1 and operated below expectation in pass rate. Dallas' inability to stop the run gives Washington another reason to lean on Jacory Croskey-Merritt instead of asking Daniels to win through volume.
The strongest contrary evidence is Dallas allowing 230 passing yards and three passing touchdowns to Jaxson Dart while repeatedly busting coverages. Daniels also could be forced into additional attempts if Washington trails.
- THE LONG SHOTJACORY CROSKEY-MERRITTANYTIME TD OVER 0.5
I'm taking Croskey-Merritt to score an anytime touchdown at +120. He handled 16 carries in the opener, led Washington with 63 rushing yards and received the goal-line finish on the Commanders' first touchdown drive.
The matchup supports another scoring opportunity: Dallas surrendered 165 rushing yards and a rushing touchdown in Week 1, and Croskey-Merritt ran for 105 yards and two touchdowns in his last meeting with the Cowboys. The strongest contrary evidence is the one-game sample for his current role.
Rachaad White remains involved, while Daniels can keep the ball near the goal line, so Washington's rushing touchdowns are not reserved for one player.
- THE LONG SHOTCEEDEE LAMBANYTIME TD OVER 0.5
I'm taking Lamb to score an anytime touchdown at +110. He led Dallas with eight targets in the opener and caught Prescott's first touchdown pass, reinforcing his position as the primary option when the field compresses.
Washington allowed three passing touchdowns against Philadelphia and conceded several coverage-breaking gains, while Dallas should have more possessions at home than it managed in Week 1. The strongest contrary evidence is the limited current-season sample and Dallas' crowded scoring distribution.
George Pickens, Jake Ferguson and Javonte Williams all command opportunities, and Lamb produced only 44 yards in the opener despite his touchdown.
