The read
MetLife hosts the Jets’ home opener, with New York coming off a road win and Green Bay looking to respond after letting a second-half lead unravel in Minnesota.
I’m taking the points because New York has a credible way to keep this competitive without needing to match Green Bay’s biggest passing plays. Geno Smith completed 19 of 24 passes without taking a sack against Tennessee. Breece Hall rushed for 102 yards, and Braelon Allen added 40. That combination gives the Jets options against Green Bay’s fresh defensive-tackle absences. Those losses matter specifically against this backfield, although Green Bay’s strong early-down defensive performance means sustained rushing success is far from automatic.
The protection matchup is the other reason I want New York. Jordan Love took four sacks last week, and Green Bay allowed a 32.6% quarterback-hit rate. Will McDonald IV and Kingsley Enagbare each recorded a sack for the Jets. New York does not have to replicate Minnesota’s entire defensive performance to make Green Bay’s possessions less productive; timely disruption could again leave explosive gains unsupported by consistent scoring. The Packers converted just one of four red-zone opportunities.
There is a substantial case against the bet. Tennessee finished 3-14 in 2025, so New York’s opener was no definitive test. Love’s 387 passing yards and the production from Christian Watson, Matthew Golden and Tucker Kraft show the challenge ahead, particularly with the Jets carrying fresh defensive-end and safety absences. Green Bay’s defensive collapse also included penalties and turnover-created short fields; I would not project another 39 points allowed.
That is why I prefer +3.5 to the Jets moneyline. New York’s balanced opening performance and Green Bay’s protection problems give the underdog a plausible path to stay close, while the extra half-point protects a field-goal defeat. I’m backing that cushion at -112 rather than requiring New York to finish ahead.

Props on this game
4- GARY'S PICKBREECE HALLRECEIVING YARDS UNDER 89.5
I’m taking under 89.5 receiving yards at -113. Hall had two targets, two catches and 16 receiving yards in the opener, and he has stayed below this line in all 10 listed games from 2025, averaging 20.0 yards with a high of 75.
His primary role is still on the ground—22 carries last week—and Green Bay’s depleted defensive front gives New York additional reason to keep feeding him there. The strongest counter is Hall’s open-field ability: rain could generate checkdowns, and a negative game script could expand his receiving work.
Even so, reaching 90 yards would require a dramatic change from his established passing-game volume.
- GARY'S PICKCHRIS BROOKSRECEIVING YARDS UNDER 38.5
I’m taking under 38.5 receiving yards at -113. Brooks is the secondary back behind MarShawn Lloyd and received only one target in Week 1, finishing without a catch.
He also stayed below this number in all six listed games from 2025, averaging 10.2 receiving yards and topping out at 24. The strongest contrary evidence is Green Bay’s protection trouble: Love was hit repeatedly in Minnesota, so quick throws to a back could become part of the answer, especially in wet conditions.
Brooks still needs both a major target increase and unusually strong production to clear this line.
- THE LONG SHOTBREECE HALLANYTIME TD OVER 0.5
I’m taking Hall to score a touchdown at -105. He handled 22 carries and 26 total opportunities in Week 1, produced 118 scrimmage yards and scored once.
Green Bay allowed two rushing touchdowns in its opener and enters this game without interior defenders Javon Hargrave and Warren Brinson, while Devonte Wyatt is questionable. That supports another run-heavy plan near the goal line.
The strongest counter is touchdown competition: Braelon Allen can handle power work, and Kenyon Sadiq scored on a rushing touch last week. Green Bay’s five touchdowns allowed also came in a chaotic one-game sample, so I’m paying for Hall’s role more than treating that defensive result as established form.
- THE LONG SHOTCHRISTIAN WATSONANYTIME TD OVER 0.5
I’m taking Watson to score a touchdown at +200. He drew eight targets in the opener and turned six catches into 147 yards and two scores, including an 81-yarder.
That explosive role matters against a Jets secondary missing safety Minkah Fitzpatrick, with D’Angelo Ponds entering his first NFL action after missing the opener. Watson does not need sustained passing volume to cash this price.
The strongest counter is New York’s Week 1 defense: it allowed only 10 points and an explosive play on just 4.1% of the 49 snaps it faced. Rain also works against the vertical passing game, and Watson’s two-touchdown opener is only one game, so this is a plus-money swing rather than a high-certainty play.
