Washington's reserve offense has not shown me the same thing. Against Detroit they managed nine first downs, went 4-for-12 on third down, and the Lions' defense didn't allow them a touchdown all day. Their comfortable night, the 20-7 over Miami, came on the ground from rookie backs against a defense the coverage itself described as depleted, and the scoring at Detroit opened with their own defense putting the ball in the end zone on the game's first snap. That's a real credit to Amik Robertson and the front seven, and it's the underdog's clearest path here — one splash play is worth more than this whole spread. But it isn't a formula you can bank on across four quarters.

The other side of it is Baltimore's defense, which has surrendered ten points total in two games and got five sacks against Minnesota spread across Mike Green, Ethan Burke, Rayshaun Benny, Keondre Jackson and a shared takedown, with Burke adding two passes defensed and two quarterback hits. The two teams practiced against each other in Baltimore for three days this week, and the reporting out of those sessions was that Washington's pass protection had a rough go against this front. That's the freshest matchup evidence in the building, it's seventy-two hours old, and it points at the exact collision that decides a game where the quarterback race behind Daniels has tightened rather than settled.

I'll name the obstacle honestly: Baltimore's last outing was a 13-3 grind, not a demolition, and preseason fourth quarters turn conservative by design — leads get sat on with third-string runners rather than pressed.
