Preseason Week 3 under the lights at Lincoln Financial Field, CBS carrying it nationally, and neither quarterback the network wants to show you is going to take a snap. Burrow sits. Hurts sits. Both clubs cut to 53 this weekend. What's actually playing tonight is the back half of two rosters, and the men on the field know it.

That's the game to price, and the number tells you the market priced it as close to nothing beyond home field. A 2-0 road team getting points from an 0-2 home team means the preseason records were read and thrown out — correctly, since neither record was built by the players who'll decide this. So the question isn't who's better. It's who has a plan.

Cincinnati has one. Josh Johnson is expected to lead the quarterback reps again after taking the entire first half against Chicago — 15-of-23, 156 yards, two touchdowns, and an opening possession that went 14 plays and 67 yards against Chicago's starting defense. That last detail is the one that moved me. It's the only piece of evidence on either side of this matchup of a reserve unit sustaining a long drive against first-team opposition. Zac Taylor said he'd have left Johnson in through the third quarter and only pulled him because the tape was clean. Sean Clifford followed with 126 yards and a touchdown. Cincinnati produced 5.4 yards per play and 1.42 points per drive in that game. They scored on multiple possessions in both outings rather than living off one lucky series, and Evan McPherson has already connected from 56.

Philadelphia's quarterback situation is the opposite kind of thing — not worse, just unsettled. Tanner McKee's 16-of-22 for 173 and two scores at New England is every bit the equal of Johnson's line, and I'm not pretending otherwise. But Sirianni has called it "still a competition," the reps have rotated by the day, and Roseman has floated carrying four arms. Two men splitting an audition is a different animal than one man who already has the job for the night.

The trenches lean the same way for the same reason. Cutting Cody Ford on Monday narrowed Cincinnati's swing-tackle race to Jalen Rivers and Javon Foster, who each played 53 snaps against Chicago — 85 percent of the team's offensive total. That's continuity, and it's continuity with a job hanging on it in the fourth quarter, which is exactly when preseason finales get decided.

I'll name the flaw honestly: that 27-9 scoreline was flattered by second-half backups facing backups, and the first half against Chicago's ones was a tighter game than the margin suggests. Johnson is 40 years old with one strong night in the file. And the same line that just earned a teammate's release for penalties has to hold up on the road.

But at 2.5 with a full field goal of cushion, I don't need Cincinnati to be better. I need them to be organized. Tonight, they're the ones who look it.
