Friday night at Hard Rock Stadium, the preseason ends and the roster math begins. Tua Tagovailoa walks back into the building in the other jersey, cuts land Sunday, and most of the men who play the second half of this game are auditioning for a job rather than a game plan. In a game where the reserves get the majority of the snaps, that second half is the sample that counts, and it is the one everyone stopped reading before they got to.
The price is what pushes me over. Atlanta at -194 on the moneyline is not a 3.5-point favorite; that's a book charging for a four-point team in a game where two staffs are managing bodies rather than chasing points. Equal rest, six days each, no edge there for either side. I'll take the hook past three, at home, at -104, and let a snap-managed Friday night play out. Atlanta has the better stated intent tonight and I respect it. I just don't think it's worth this much.
