Two teams still chasing their first SEC win meet under the lights at FirstBank Stadium on Saturday night, and they arrive in very different moods. Vanderbilt is coming off a home beating from Ole Miss, while Arkansas nearly knocked off Tennessee. That contrast is exactly why I like the Commodores laying 5.5. Start with last week. Vandy's 52-17 loss looks ugly, but turnovers drove it: four giveaways became 24 Ole Miss points, and the Commodores actually outscored the Rebels 14-10 after halftime. Arkansas's 24-17 loss looks respectable, but Tennessee was starting a quarterback for the first time. Those two results push this number toward the Razorbacks, which means Vandy is probably laying less than it should. Don't let the injury report scare you either. Vanderbilt's list of outs is long, but nearly every name on it has produced little or nothing this season. Jared Curtis starts, and the defenders making plays are all available: CJ Heard, Bryan Longwell, Nick Rinaldi and Miles Capers. The matchup also plays to Vandy's strength. Vandy's defense struggles against elite offenses but has held ordinary ones in check, and this Arkansas offense is ordinary. This isn't a hammer.
