The read

Sunshine and light wind at Faurot Field for a 3:30 kickoff on ABC. No. 8 Florida arrives 4-0 to face a No. 25 Missouri team that let a fourth-quarter lead get away at Mississippi State last week.

This one comes down to who turns trips into touchdowns. Florida scores 5.548 points per scoring opportunity. Missouri scores 3.722, even though it reaches the opponent's 40 more often. Florida also moves the ball far more efficiently per play: 0.413 PPA against Missouri's 0.199, and a 51.6% success rate to Missouri's 43.6%. When both offenses get chances, one is cashing them in and the other is leaving points on the field. A 5.5-point number sits right in that gap.

The engine is Jadan Baugh: 600 yards at 7.2 a carry with 11 touchdowns. The production held up against SEC defenses, with 162 yards and three scores at Auburn and 142 and three more against Ole Miss, on 26 and 29 carries. Missouri's interior is good at stopping runs at the line, with a 24.4% stuff rate, and that is the real fight in this game. The problem is the edges. Langden Kitchen played every game this season and is out today, and the other starting edge rusher, with no stat line since Sept. 19, is out as well. Daeden Hopkins and the 6.5 sacks are still there, but the edge depth behind Hopkins has barely registered in the box scores, and Baugh will test that contain all afternoon. When Missouri gets beat, it gets beat big: its explosiveness allowed is 1.412, compared to Florida's 1.146. A back with runs of 53, 61 and 75 yards is the wrong opponent for that profile.

Missouri's offense is built on volume more than damage. Jamal Roberts carries the load at 4.4 a carry. Austin Simmons has been clean with the ball, with 11 touchdowns and no interceptions, but the range runs from 252 yards against Arkansas-Pine Bluff to 91 against Troy. Cayden Lee and Donovan Olugbode give Simmons two real targets, and Florida's secondary gave up deep completions to Ole Miss, so Missouri will put up points. The question is whether Missouri can finish with sevens often enough to keep pace, and nothing on this résumé says it can. Against the one quality opponent Missouri has faced, it led 24-17 after three quarters and was then outscored 14-0.

Florida has flaws. The defense gave up 39 at Auburn, its success rate allowed sits at 40.5%, and leading receiver Vernell Brown III is doubtful. That absence matters less here than it would elsewhere, because Aaron Philo throws only 21 to 23 times a game and the offense runs through Baugh. Dallas Wilson, with 14 catches for 236 yards, remains. I'll lay the points with the better offense, the better finisher and the healthier front.

Injuries noted

Florida Gators: Vernell Brown III (doubtful) — Leading receiver with a knee injury; October 2 reporting explicitly cites the Friday-night SEC report downgrading him to doubtful for Missouri.; Bailey Stockton (questionable) — Receiver with a back injury. October 2 reporting says the SEC report lists him questionable, while reporting attributed to On3's Pete Nakos says he should play and is leaning probable. A subsequent dated official upgrade was not verified.; Kelvin Jimenez (out) — Running back listed out with a knee injury in the October 1 official preview. A later dated status could not be verified from a successfully opened page.; Eric Singleton Jr. (probable) — Receiver listed probable with an ankle injury in the October 1 official preview. This establishes that report's designation only; a later dated designation was not verified.

Missouri Tigers: Ahmad Hardy (out) — Running back listed out with a leg injury in the October 1 game-specific official preview.; Malae Fonoti (out) — Running back listed out; condition undisclosed in the October 1 official preview.; Josh Atkins (out) — Offensive lineman listed out; condition undisclosed in the October 1 official preview.; Gavin Hoffman (out) — Tight end listed out; condition undisclosed in the October 1 official preview.; JaDon Blair (out) — Defensive back listed out; condition undisclosed in the October 1 official preview.; Darris Smith (out) — Starting edge rusher ruled unavailable in October 2 reporting attributed to ESPN's Pete Thamel. The October 1 official preview identified a lower-body injury.; Langden Kitchen (out) — Ruled out against Florida in October 2 reporting attributed to ESPN's Pete Thamel. The October 1 official preview identified a lower-body injury.; Bobby Washington Jr. (questionable) — Linebacker listed questionable with an undisclosed condition on October 1. A later dated status could not be verified from a successfully opened page.

The research

The dated measurements the app shows under this card — observations with their sample and source, not predictions.

QUARTERBACK

  • Aaron Philo is FLA's projected starter

    10.54 Y/A

Aaron Philo is FLA's projected starting quarterback. Florida's October 1 official game preview discusses Philo as its quarterback entering Missouri. It does not explicitly announce the October 3 starter; this designation is based on the preview's role discussion, not passing totals. 2026 line: 917 passing yards, 72.4% completions, 10.54 yards per attempt, 7-2 TD-INT over 4 games.

  • Austin Simmons is MIZ's confirmed starter

    8.77 Y/A

Austin Simmons is MIZ's confirmed starting quarterback. The October 2 preview explicitly identifies Simmons as Missouri's starting quarterback for the October 3 Florida matchup. 2026 line: 930 passing yards, 65.1% completions, 8.77 yards per attempt, 11-0 TD-INT over 4 games.

TRENCHES

  • FLA: 256.3 rushing yards per game to MIZ's 160

    96.3 YPG

Florida is running for 256.3 a game through 4 games, nearly double its 136.8 last season, so that pace is likely to cool. Missouri has gone the other way, down to 160 from 228.3 last season. The two run games have swapped roles from last season, and four games is a short window to trust that flip fully.

PACE & SCRIPT

  • FLA: 53.5 points per game to MIZ's 35.8

    17.8 PPG

Florida is scoring 53.5 a game through 4 games after averaging 21.6 last season, a jump that is too big to hold at this level. Missouri at 35.8 is closer to its 30.2 from last season. A bettor should be wary of pricing Florida's offense off four games when last season's number points the other way.

  • FLA @ MIZ carries a 57.5 market total

    57.5

Florida at Missouri is priced at 57.5, 5.5 above the 52 median, which says the market expects both offenses to move the ball. There are no team stats on the sheet to back the number. For it to crack, the game needs to shorten: long, clock-eating drives or red-zone stops that turn touchdowns into field goals.

MISMATCH

  • FLA: 256.3 rush yards a game to MIZ's 160

    256.3 VS 160

Florida is running for 256.3 a game over 4 games, way up from 136.8 last season, while Missouri has fallen to 160 from 228.3. Both numbers are big swings from last year, so Florida likely cools and Missouri likely climbs back some. On the road at Missouri, Florida's ground game decides whether they can control the clock against a team with a strong running history.

    Missouri

I'm laying the points with Florida, but I never said Missouri gets shut out. The Tigers will score in this game, and the question is who on that roster is most likely to be in the end zone when they do. At plus money, I want the receiver who has been finding the end zone most often.

Donovan Olugbode has 21 catches for 322 yards and five touchdowns through four games. That's 15.3 yards per catch, and a touchdown on roughly one of every four receptions. He has more touchdowns than Cayden Lee on fewer catches, and Lee is priced at -111 while Olugbode sits at +120. Those two are sharing the same targets from the same quarterback, and the market is charging more for the one who has scored less.

The fit matters too. My concern with Missouri's offense is finishing drives, because the Tigers have been settling for field goals once they get close. Olugbode is the answer to that problem because he doesn't need a short field. At over 15 yards a catch, he's the player who can score from 30 or 40 yards out before the drive ever gets to the red zone. Florida's secondary gave up deep completions to Ole Miss and allowed 39 at Auburn, and Austin Simmons has 11 touchdowns with no interceptions. When Missouri needs to keep pace late, the ball is going downfield to its best big-play receiver.

The risk is real. If Florida controls the clock with Jadan Baugh and Missouri only gets a handful of possessions, every Tigers prop suffers. Some of that touchdown total also came against Arkansas-Pine Bluff. Still, +120 implies about 45 percent, and a receiver scoring at this rate in an offense that has to throw to keep up is worth more than that. Lee at -111 is the more obvious name, and Olugbode at plus money is the better bet.
