The read
Charlotte hosts a neutral-site meeting of unbeaten teams, with Virginia arriving ranked No. 25 and West Virginia bringing Rich Rodriguez’s run-focused attack.
I’m taking Virginia’s points because its offense has a credible way to challenge West Virginia’s defensive weaknesses. Beau Pribula has completed 21 of 25 passes for 317 yards while adding 102 rushing yards. Against a defense whose own coaches have emphasized correcting containment problems, his mobility matters. Virginia’s shifts and motion give that defense additional assignments to handle. My read is that Pribula can sustain possessions without needing Virginia to dominate on the ground.
West Virginia has allowed a 41.3% defensive success rate through two games; Virginia has allowed 31.6%. The Cavaliers’ stronger defensive results also survive opponent adjustment: SP+ places Virginia at 28 and West Virginia at 63. Those ratings do not decide this game, but they reinforce a case built on how these teams have played rather than Virginia’s ranking alone.
The serious threat to this ticket is West Virginia winning early downs on both sides. Michael Hawkins Jr.’s running ability and Cam Cook’s production can test Virginia’s depleted defensive-tackle rotation. Virginia’s recent defensive numbers include personnel it cannot fully reproduce tonight, so I would not simply project those results forward. Meanwhile, WVU’s 30.0% defensive stuff rate presents a real obstacle: Virginia’s offensive success rate falls to 31.0% on passing downs.
That is why I prefer the spread to Virginia’s moneyline. I trust the Cavaliers’ combination of quarterback mobility, offensive efficiency and defensive performance to keep them competitive more than I trust an outright-win prediction. West Virginia can win this game while still struggling to create the separation this ticket requires. Virginia +10.5 is my bet.

Props on this game
1- GARY'S PICKMICHAEL HAWKINS JR.RUSHING YARDS OVER 53.5
I’m backing Hawkins to clear this with his legs. He has already produced 199 rushing yards on 26 attempts through two games, and his role fits a West Virginia offense built around stressing defenses on the ground.
Virginia’s depleted defensive-tackle rotation makes that especially relevant: Hawkins can benefit both on designed runs and when the Cavaliers lose containment while accounting for Cam Cook. College sack yardage adds some downside, and Cook’s workload can limit the quarterback’s volume, but Hawkins does not need another 100-yard performance to beat 53.5.
His rushing usage and the matchup make the over worth laying -122.
