The read

Washington closes its nonconference schedule at Husky Stadium before Minnesota arrives next week. Eastern Washington makes the cross-state trip with Nate Bell directing an offense that gives the Eagles a credible way to contribute to the scoreboard.

I’m taking the points because Washington’s offensive problems matter to the kind of separation this ticket requires. Through two games, the Huskies have averaged 20 points, with 25.4% of carries stopped at or behind the line. Their passing-down success rate is 16.7%, and they have produced 2.667 points per scoring opportunity—defined as a drive reaching the opponent’s 40. Fisch’s stated priorities of improving the running game and settling offensive-line positions reinforce that concern. This matchup offers room for improvement, but I don’t expect every stalled possession to disappear.

Bell gives Eastern a route to scoring beyond simply hoping Washington struggles. He has six passing touchdowns and four rushing touchdowns through three games, while Wesley Garrett has 18 catches for 235 yards. My judgment is that Bell’s mobility and those receiving options can extend enough possessions to make Washington’s task harder. Eastern does not need to match the Huskies possession for possession for this bet to work.

The danger is substantial: Washington has six sacks and six takeaways through two games, and Eastern just surrendered long scoring plays through the air and on the ground against South Dakota. Demond Williams Jr.’s mobility and the cleared Rashid Williams give Washington ways to exploit further breakdowns. A succession of short fields and explosive touchdowns is the clearest threat to this ticket.

I still favor Eastern’s cushion. Washington’s defensive disruption is established; the offensive consistency needed to capitalize repeatedly is less convincing. I’m backing Bell to produce enough offense, alongside some continued Washington drive-finishing problems, to keep Eastern inside +42.5.
