Tulane Green Wave at Duke Blue Devils

Two defending conference champions open in Durham with new starting quarterbacks and substantial roster turnover. This opener tests how much of last season’s success survived those changes. I’m taking Tulane’s points because its quarterback running threat targets a documented Duke problem. Zeon Chriss-Gremillion brings 992 career rushing yards and 10 rushing touchdowns. Duke’s staff identified assignment errors against quarterback runs in last season’s meeting, and now the Blue Devils replace their entire starting defensive line. My read is that Chriss-Gremillion’s mobility can help Tulane sustain possessions and make Duke earn its separation throughout the game. Tulane also retains defensive leaders Jack Tchienchou and Chris Rodgers. Their return gives the Green Wave experienced players central to executing its stated priority: forcing Nate Sheppard sideways before he accelerates upfield. I’m backing that returning nucleus to produce enough stops to keep Tulane within this number. That is a matchup judgment, rather than something their tackle totals establish. Sheppard is the strongest argument against this ticket. He produced 1,132 rushing yards at a 5.7 average last season, and Jeremiah Hasley supplies another established offensive option after catching 40 passes for 454 yards. Duke’s covering path is credible: sustain offense through those returning pieces while Walker Eget connects with his new receivers. Tulane’s previous secondary struggles make that a substantial threat, although Duke must also integrate replacements at receiver and along its offensive line. The assumption carrying my bet is that Tulane’s quarterback mobility translates into productive possessions against this reconstructed Duke front. The unresolved matchup that could change my decision is Tulane’s blocking: only one offensive-line starter returns. If that group cannot create running opportunities, Tulane’s route to staying close becomes much weaker. I favor the points, with modest confidence in that execution judgment.
